ITTTTS ALIVE!!!! bwahahaha! its alive.
just kidding mang Pabling! congratulations. now my problem with the small pot, I hope it is stable enough not to create any movement while the tree forms roots.
In a couple of months the branches can be designed right?

jun

Thanks Sam, perhaps I am a bit lucky too, imagine the punishment , maltreatment, the tree got before it was finally potted. The tree was uprooted in Batanagas and brought here the next day, I could not attend to the tree that day, I had so many visitors so the tree had to wait another day for the cleaning and initial carving.
Jun, dont worry about the pot, just bring the tuba so we can celebrate.
Best wishes

Ka Pabling,
Congrats, I'm so optimistic that this tree will survive. As I have said before, the mortality rate is almost nil. See you this weekend in my place. Another Aroma is waiting for you.
Rob,
I like the virt you envisioned to this tree. A woodeen ship, I never think of that; you really have an artist's perspectives.
Regards,
Jolz

Hi Sam,
My experience in planting large pemphis ,is that you can store the stumps in a room for even a month, just keep it moist and you will see buds turn into branchlets Perhaps its the stored nutrients in the stumps that keeps it alive and sustain the growth of buds, I think this could also be done with acacia I will try it next time I will let you know the result.

Thanks Brent, I guess I got lucky with this one, and what is more exciting is that you see buds in places where you need them!

Re: Huge Acacia fornesiana
Thanks again Sam,
Did you notice the piles of acacia ? I examined the stumps and they seem to be still fresh. We were on our way to the beach with my family and I did not like to spoil the fun, just to get some.
I noticed that even in the beach where we used to go, all the acacias along the beach are now gone. For us who have acacias now are lucky, perhaps in a few years there will be no more acacias for bonsai

hi ka pabling, well !!!! i,m so inspired , i had read the post but did,nt realize what tree it was, as i,v said i,m still learning about these tropical species , now i know what it is i,v found out the thai name and there are millions of them in my area . i,v been to see the guys who collect " yamadori " and explained , and they are going to get some for me ,evidently they grow with the gasiow < phyllanthus taxodiifolius beille > that i use but they have not bothered to collect any because like you said not many people use them and certainly nobody in thailand use them . mind you i,m not expecting any as good as yours, but i can dream. thank you so much for such an inspiring post, regards john

Hi John,
I am sure there are a lot (millions ?) of acacia in Thailand, just be sure to get those that are in the sea shore. Its easy to grow this for bonsai, just program the branches, wire it let the primary branch thicken then cut it one or two inches from the trunk, depending on the size of the trunk the the rest will be clip and grow method. Branches grow 3 to 4 inches per week, so this tree will really keep you busy.
Best wishes

Sorry for my late reply, I have been busy lately. The acacia is doing well although the top branches died back. It has just been repoted.olivierlb wrote:

Re: Huge Acacia fornesiana
It is good to see it is growing. It will take time to get it finished, though.

You are right Budi, it really takes time to finish an acacia, the branches are already almost two meters long but the diameter is only 3/8 inch. it would probably take another two years to get the desired primary branch thicknes, meanwhile, the secondary and terciary branches could be trained.
See you at the ABFF.
