Huge Elm forest
Hi IBC, Hello John,
this is one of the biggest forest I made...
I combined some of my single tree elms and smaller elm forest into one huge forest...
Elm forest 1
Elm Forest 2
Another elm included..
b
Don't mind the pig it's just for fun...Qingquan Zhao uses horse I use pigs...hehehe
This is how big it is...
I am enjoying more the art of penjing now,,,and I have to re arrange my garden to accommodate the ever getting bigger penjings.
regards,
jun

Re: Huge Elm forest
Hi Jun
...How can I say this without offending you, but
I'm afraid this is a winner on the way to a great future ;-)
Personally, I really like how you have designed the hill to mirror the movement of trunks and canopies. The way the individual trees interplay borrowing branches from the next tree creates a very convincing (awesome) image of a stout old forest, rather than a bunch of trees randomly put together in a tray. I can almost imagine how happy you must have felt inside, when this idea came up...
You have shown how to loose a few darlings and winn a lifetime lover. Well done, Jun.
enough flattering words from me...someone take over, please ;-)
Regards to you
/Loke Emil

Dear Rakesh
I am quite sure you meant those nice words for Jun...
Anyhow, good luck embarking on the adventures of creating your own forest bonsai...

Re: Huge Elm forest
Thanks Loke!
The easy part is creating the mound...one of the key point is that it should reflect the idea of perspective and not just a mound created to accommodate the trees. Then the small rocks serve several purposes one of them is keeping the mound in place for as long as it take...otherwise the illusion of depth in the future would be lost if the mound design was compromised. And the sizes of location of rocks were important to.
As for the trees. careful selection of the trees and brutal cutting of branches were the key.

The 'spirit of the forest' is well evoked in your forest interpretation, Jun. Great work and perspective. I see that the pig has gone to sleep.

Jun,
Just saw one pic and you really did a good job.
BTW, my back hurts already just looking at the pic. LOL You use a forklift to move these things?!? Or just invite the entire "barangay"? LOL

Sakaki,
Thanks! I'm Glad you like it. Brings me extra joy when somebody else like my work and not just me...hehehe..."Magic Hands"- I'll be needing a huge magic hat to pull this size out
regards,
jun
Cosmos,
Thanks! I would like to concentrate more on the perspective effect of my forest, I think it is very important rather than just clustering/grouping the trees with the typical big trees at the front smaller tree at the back.
P.S. Some bears ate the boar.
regards,
jun
Dario,
Thanks!
This is just a "shohin"-----3 guys could easily carry this. It is just the effect that gives it a very heavy look. But the entire barangay is there too to cheers. and to have a free beer. hehehe! But some of my trees really needs a forklift. I am acquiring a huge ficus conccina material with more than 1.20meter nebari.

jun

Re: Huge Elm forest
Very nice Jun!
The design is very successful. I think your use of forced perspective is very clever. The blue green water in the shoreline is very convensing. I think it's some of your best work!
My back hurts looking at it! That's one I don't think you have to worry about anyone picking it up and running off with it!........ He he

Re: Huge Elm forest
Hi IBC folks!
Ready now, just the live moss tomorrow. BTW, I added another huge trunk but short tree in the middle to fill up the transition gap between the biggest tree and the left side tree, which got an abrupt feeling of sudden trunk girth difference.
This was before, with real water.
This is what I wanted to achieve using the chemical....a glossy reflection of the trees and rock...
Solid as a glass.
