Display bench for one tree Mk III
I decided that the Oak should have a nice bench/table to sit on instead of blacked engineering blocks. So again made from off cuts and scrap timber, 90% hardwood...and substantial hardwood at that.
Front and rear X members are made from fitting two lengths of Beech together, glued, screwed and clamped. Side X members are Brazilian Mahogany that I had when ripping out a wooden front door and screens to replace with UPVC. This is when hardwood was hard.
legs are what is left over from the previous benches, the rest is beech stripping that also came from the refit at work.
90% bolted together with coach bolts and coach bolt screw threads. Screws for fitting the stripping around the from and rear X members.
Reasoning behind the short legs is the Oak is a big tree and this height is perfect. Oh well a final nip off followed by the vacuum cleaner with a soft brush then a wipe off with a cloth, just 3-5 coats of the ol sadolin ebony and it is done.

Nice job. Almost too nice to put outside. Are you concerned about durability when exposed to water?

Not at all Rob. The 3-5 coats of Sadolin ebony on top of hardwood means it will last for my lifetime. Every 6 years or so I shall just rub it down and re-coat it.

With five coats of sadolin ebony, duly nipped in-between coats it is now in place. Black is rather black right now but the earlier ones I made are fading in nicely already.
Wife and I stood on it to make certain it would take the weight of the Oak OK.

Although the topic is about the table I could not help but saying first: What a nice oak!!!
Then I will refer to the table and say: Very good hand made work!

Thanks all. I'm busy making some for fellow Bonsai enthusiasts right now. Cottage industry springs to mind, especially now after many years I have sourced a Kyodama replacement that is to all intents and purposes the same but with improved oxygen capabilities and water retention. I need to work out how best to market the stuff now.

That is looking great.
I like the way you and your wife tested the table before the tree. Its alright that the wife breaks her arm if the table gives way. That'll heal in a few months, branch will take years to grow back.

Absolutely Smithy, an arm will mend but a branch can take forever:-)
