shikishi art for new year's
I contacted my sumi-e artist Hiroko and asked her to make me a board for the new year's, 2014...year of the horse.

Really Nicely Done! and great idea, Dick!
I have been looking for something along the same lines.
But as a calligraphy scroll to go with a image stone for Tokonoma Display.
My idea is one character "horse" or a couple to say "year of horse"
I was born in 54 the year of the horse so I could use it often at home.
This year competing for display at Aiseki Kai show's set up.
Got a real nice doban for stone, just waiting for special sand.
have been trolling for scroll but no luck and time running out soon.

I'd love to see the doban. been looking for one for quite a while. My artist friend,Hiroko did four sumi-e works for me to choose from. There was one scene with horses ,two side by side looking straight ahead, that I also loved. PM me if interested and i can give you her Email contact info.

Dick your the bomb!...
Always so helpful, friendly & positive!, leaving nothing to be desired of.
To find someone to give a hand up, specialy on this forum, is not easy...
and when someone tries to teach! their insulted and totally unappreciated.
Took a huge amount of effort to track one down this size and quality...
but worth every penny...
foot detail
width 11"
length 21"
Ok my friend Dick! I will not mention cost! surely your already aware...
But IMHO please note a couple of very important concept ideas.
Foot detail 1st picture, low squat style feet!...
Like my daiza design("lazy legs")which give a feeling of supporting the heavy mas!,
make no mistake! and get the tall fancy dancing curvier type! which appear floating.
their not for viewing stones or suiseki there for flower arranging or Ikebana.
Depth of doban 2nd picture, is shallow and low with plain as possible profile...
make no mistake! and get a real deep one! with fancy overly decorated sides!
if you have to sink more than 3.5" then cut like has been done for century's.
Length of doban 3rd picture, make no mistake! bigger is better...
a little bit of breathing room is a real good thing!
I too! will PM you contact info. for availability if you like my way of thinking...

Wow! what a piece of work. It will be interesting to see what eventually ends up in there.

Dick, Even if I'm aware of a couple of steadfast rules for doban display,
pretty much anything that comfortably fits in it will work...
I have used it for puddle, landscape, Island and boat stones.
That's the beauty of a doban, same one can be used for different types.
This time thinking of a large, image river stone...
