Shohin Stand Empty Shohin Stand

Post  bonsaisr Thu Sep 06, 2012 10:01 pm

The last time I addressed this subject, I was laughed out of town. I wonder if anything has changed. I desperately need a shohin stand that will hold about five passengers around 9 or 10 inches (25 cm) high including the pot. They would be in 4 or 5 inch pots.
I can't afford the fancy stands they sell at shows for $200-$300. Believe me, I appreciate the work that goes into them, but frankly, my trees are not worth it. I'm talking about a stand for club shows, not the National. The cheap mass produced stands from China are too small. I am looking for a modest home-made stand I can afford, or even a kit.
I have bought stands from Jim's Woodworks. They are lovely & very reasonable, but he doesn't have what I'm looking for.
Any ideas?

Good luck,Iris....I can appreciate the need to keep projects under budget. If anything I've learned in the decades of my love of many japanese hobbies. It's expensive!

I have a friend in eagle Idaho that does all my stand work. the latest of which was a shohin stand that can be taken apart to lie flat.
Otherwise, they're cumbersom to carry or ship.Shohin Stand Img_2614

May I ask how much it cost, including shipping?
Tandamiti has a stand I could use at a decent price. It is only in Buffalo, about a 3 hour drive if I want to avoid shipping.

Would something like this be of interest to you? It is a very simple solid walunt stand and much less than $300. Regards Hank

Yes, I saw that one & I had it in mind. How much would it cost to ship to Syracuse?

Do you have a picture of one occupied? I'm trying to visualize it.

Iris
I was at a local show some time back, and I saw a very nice shohin display using wine creates stacked in different sizes and array, shohin were space on or in each create. It was a very nice and different display that you could recreate. Sorry I couldn't find any pictures of it. Hope this may help.

I decided to get Hank's stand. End of problem. Next problem: getting my shohin bonsai into decent shape so I can exhibit them on this stand. I don't need much advice, just persistence. lol!
