Re: to daiza or not to daiza...
Hi Stonener... If you wish to transition from daiza-style (Japanese) to shizuo ("stone seat")-style fitted wood seats, I imagine learning from Patrick Metiva (who has mounted stones for Dick Benbow) would be instructive. Patrick has a lovely 'international style' of mounting which is impressive.
Additionally, I learned at a Potomac Viewing Stone Group (PVSG) presentation that Dr. Tom Elias relies upon Patrick for mounting stones from China. Tom has an extraordinary Asian stone collection. When he recommends a seat carver, it is worth listening. Patrick was featured an edition of BCI's Bonsai & Suiseki magazine a few months ago.
There was a brief thread on IBC of Patrick's wood seats in December 2011 (linked HERE).

Thanks Chris for the link...
I had met Patrick at last years Aisekikai show,
got to see a couple of his daiza creations,
and agree he's a friendly guy...

That's great Bugeye!
Paul is some guy in the Bible! one of a group of twelve...
Glad you caught that! Thanks for clarifying my mistake...

Re: to daiza? or not to daiza!...
These are the latest daiza's I made for some cut stones.
No secret obvious to the viewer, "no dough about it!"
But many like this perfect look and collect them this way.
I have no problem making daiza this way, "live and let live"
I once read on a post, I totally agree! Freedom to do as you like.
Cutting stones is a very old Tradition "one cut rule" around for century's.
Because they are Geographical Landscape stones I don't use duck feet,
so they don't look like there dancing around and are more grounded and stable.
IMHO I think they support the visual weight of the mountain much better!

Re: to daiza or not to daiza...
I actually caught my breath, seeing the stones in a row like this is so beautiful the red and yellow stones are great my fiend,.....wow wow wow.
The daizas are lovely...but they look to muscular...you need a little more of a feminine touch. Maybe the feet are to wide. But hey I'm still the student ..and you guys and Yvonne are the experts.... Yvonne what do you think?
Again that Red stone moved me..
thank you
Love and light

Hey Dre! Thanks for taking the time to comment! my friend...
Ya I have a little different style which for me works out well.
The feet as you say are more IMHO in keeping with the Panoramic Landscape Mountain View?
The smaller fancier feet seem weak, unstable and project a feeling of flimsiness to me.
So wider more grounding and visually supportive feet used instead with less detailed as well, so not the focus.
I think give the panoramic view a much more comfortable feeling of strength and grander.
There not for everybody I understand, no problem. I have been told they look lazy and to get back to work!
So this is what I call this type of feet "lazy legs" would have liked supportive legs! but Oh well!
I also like the black color stands instead of the wood tones, but I seem to collect accordingly.
I don't do "cut's" these belong to a friend, but i have applied my thinking to them!, and am!
Truly glad to hear you like my work! even if not traditional and maybe a more American way of seeing things!

Recently completed solid black walnut daiza...
both cut landscape mountain range stones.
If ever could be reasons to cut these would be them...

Hey My Friend glad to hear that stone speaks to you!
I too like the Grand Landscape View and especially the way the colors work.
Large size stones that look this way are hard to find and then even harder to cut!
But results are very compelling and give support for reasons for cuting...
