Just back from the BSA show at Willowbog
I've just finished tweaking my pictures taken at the BSA show this weekend.
The quality of the trees and displays was fantastic and a credit to the the organisers and everyone that took the time and effort to travel and put together such a great show.
Here are a few of my stands in use:
Fiona's gorgeous Winter flowering Jasmine on a ne taku
John Armitages composition, (my favourite from the show), perched on a delicate Doug Mudd cascade stand sat on a Sycamore ji ita board
Peter Warrens aged White Pine in an antique chinese pot, pure class, the bark texture was incredible.
John Armitages Azalea on an oak ne taku
Grahams Korean Hornbeam, sorry for cutting off the tree but the mahogany root stand didn't show up particularly well on the full shot
My Hinoki (recently purchased from one of the chaps at our club) on a burr oak ji ita board.
My Potentilla on the elm root stand shown in my last post
I'll post some pictures of the lovely accent plantings etc used at the show tomorrow.
Cheers
John

Re: Home made Jiitas for displaying my shohin trees
Your stands were a delight to behold at the weekend "Other Trev" and I'm so glad that I managed to win your kindly donated stand.
All I need now is a tree of high enough standard to grace it.
Keep up the good work buddy,
Regards,
Simon

Thanks very much Si, glad to hear your pots sold well.
Have you tried your award winning lonicera on the root stand ? would be nice to see a picture of them together.

The latest addition to the collection
Not another one I hear you saying.
I've just killed my dremmel and have ordered a new one, so I've found time to add a picture of my latest stand....and a visitor to my garden.
This is the before shot, a bottom rail from an old door frame
The finished stand is approximately 150mm diameter x 42mm high
It takes around 8 hours in total from start to finish to make one of these.
This was taken around 7.00am this morning, I took 4 shots in total with the flash and he/she never flinched....appearing to pose for this one
Luckily Rocky the one eyed Robin wasn't around or it could have ended in tears !
Regards
John

"It's getting higher baby"
To quote Grandmaster Flash, my latest stand is "getting higher baby" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ChjLMbXVrU 1983, flippin eck I was 19 years old, I used to hair on the top of my head then instead of in my ears.
I've just finished carving a root stand (ne taku) that's slightly taller than my recent efforts.
This one is from a piece of Wych elm, quite a dense wood and it took some carving.
Anyhoo enough of my babbling here are some pictures prior to staining.
The "roots" are a touch thicker than I would have liked but the wood had some shakes in it so I erred on the side of caution and left them a bit thicker........and my fingers were throbbing from the carving.
Size is 120-125mm diameter on the top and height is 80mm.
I'll post more pictures after staining.
Regards
John

Re: Home made Jiitas for displaying my shohin trees
Sam & David, thanks for your comments, my apologies for the delayed response I've been up to the neck in it at work so the trees, stands & IBC have taken a back seat for a while.
Here are some picture of a root stand I've just finished, (and will be posting today) that was commissioned at the recent Magical Bonsai Accents show.
It's hopefully going to be used to display the antique bronze dragon shown in the last 2 picture...I hope the clients like it.
The brief was to keep the stand as light as possible so as not to "lose" the dragon when it's seated on top.
Hopefully if the stand is ok I'll be able to post some pictures of the 2 pieces together....fingers crossed.
Cheers

Pictures of new stand in use
I recently posted a stand off to Spain for Ramon.
He was kind enough today to send me a couple of pictures of the stand in use, I believe this is a trial run for an exhibition this coming Friday.
Lovely 3 point display of Japanese Quince and Korean Hornbeam
Close up of Korean Hornbeam on an English Oak root stand (ne taku)
Picture of the top of the root stand showing the lovely grain pattern of oak with knots.

Home made Jiitas for displaying my Shohin trees
Hi John
As usual a brilliant piece of craftsmanship, a beautiful ne taku.
A nice traditional 3 point display with quality Shohin, love the pot the Chojubai is in, a little unsure about the direction of the Hornbeam though.
