Re: Acer Campestre, yamadori
Hi all
Today we went for maybe the last tree this year.....it was MUCH bigger than expected. As the neabari was covered quit deep in the ground. My husband and son worked together like one, in about two hours, before the tree was free of the ground....after that, I had more hours cleaning the roots, and pointing out the roots, my husband had to shorten. With some of them, he could use the chainsaw.
The tree ended up, having a decent root, and I have reason to belive, it can survive.
I dont know the kind of this acer...I will see, when ( hopefully ) the leaves appears.
I thought it was a campestre, but I am not sure anymore.
Kind regards Yvonne

Re: Acer Campestre, yamadori
Thank you friends
I really hope the tree survive....I am a sucker for good tapers, and this one has it. It is my first really big heavy tree...thank god, it is hollow
.
I had planned to dig up a craetegus, the same sice....but maybe, it is too much for me to handle, ( maybe wednesday) I am only 154 cm tall....and my two helpers are not really big guys, the are just tough.
Kind regards yvonne

Re: Acer Campestre, yamadori
Hi Yvonne
Congratulations on that last ever-so-beautysome acer...is it going the 'sumo' path?
I'll keep my fingers crossed for this tree to survive.
best regards from Loke Emil

Hello Ivonne and family, now we really are curious about that craetagus.
Mind you, not digging it might leave you sleepless.
Hope the two guys are though enough.
About the hollow tree, i think it very well looks like a Acer campestre.

Re: Acer Campestre, yamadori
Hi Ivonne.
Really worth the digging.
How is your spine condition on the moment?
I have a lumbago of all the recent repotting, fortunately the pots are getting smaller each time.
Small is sometimes better.

Hi Ogie and Sunip
I am very pleased with this hawthorn, and the sice of it, and I am happy, you both like them.
Theese days, in the morning, I think about, just taking on my shoes, and leave the socks befind
.
I have many shohin , and the sice bigger.
In 2007 I decided, I wanted some bigger bonsai, and had 2 hawthorns dug up. ( they have been shown on a another tread)I loved to work with them, but wanted even bigger trunks/trees, so this is why, I went for the big ones this year.
If they all survive, wichs I will do everything for, Do I not plan to go on yamadori next year.
Unless, I cant help, finding a stunning trunk
.
Kind regards Yvonne

Hello Ivonne.
You really got the spirit,
i hope your two assistants have kept some to.
But then this field is a unique opportunity which is not to be missed.

Re: Acer Campestre, yamadori
Hi Peter
Thanks...
My guess is, that it is possible, as I found small roots on the trunk, at the surface.
But I have not tried it, so.....
Kind regards Yvonne

Re: Acer Campestre, yamadori
Today We dug up two craetegus
.....the first one was bigger than expected. It is really not possible to see how big a tree is, or how it will be placed in the pot, before the neabari is visible.
The chokkan we went for, was not a babe after all.
This one will come leaning towards the viuver...later today will I cut more of the top, for the future ballance.
