Group Video Chat on Skype

I want to see how effective a video chat can be across many time zones... it would be set up so that the fewest folk possible would NOT have to be online at a silly time in the morning. The language will be English (sorry guys) time and Date TBA

I am looking to bring together someone from Australia or New Zealand, east and west coast USA, various members from across Europe... South Africa and the middle east... in fact from across the globe.

This would be a test.. if successful we could make it a regular thing.

The test is Video and sound, you MUST have a fast connection, minimum 4MB broadband, a webcam, a well lit room... and patience.

Tony, do you know if you need the Skype Premium package ($8.99 a month) to be included in this chat? Or can you take part with the "free" Skype? Hope this works, sounds like a great idea.

Skype seems to say only one person out of the nine needs to have the pay package. But, it does seem to say that the group is limited to NINE participants.

Hi Bill, thats correct...I will have the free/paid account and will sign everyone in once I have the group set up. If this works... as smoothly as we would like then we can do it on a regular basis.

I was at an event last night where they did this and it was excellent. we can actually show trees and discuss LIVE... are you in?

Hi Will give it a go... MY speed is very fast so as the host THAT is important.. 3.3 should be OK...

We tried the group call tonight, CJ and Bill made it at 10.30 because i HAD the blue screen of death at 10.00 and had to reboot and reinstall Skype... we will do it again in the next few days.

Note: it was not as good as we hoped as the video froze many times.

Maybe not perfect but really interesting to see people face to face from so far apart. (Australia {Western yet} USA and UK.)

There were some problems but overall, I think this technology is very promising at present price. It was great to hear and see friends on other continents. I did video conferencing way back in the late 80's on very specialised equipments and dedicated lines in the office. Even then it was not entirely smooth. The more often we do it the better it becomes. The technology will definitely improve.

I don't think anyone has a place and the real benefit is to see each other face to face, regardless of our contributions/experience in Bonsai. I think it is great to meet people, I just returned from Israel/Jordan (no bonsai) but some interesting people both on our tour and in each country.

Billy, good to have u back. I share your sentiment that this Skype thingy is a good way to bring the world together.

Woah! Thank you for reposting the link!!! Very helpful I am also new to bonsai ( I'm 22 as well, Storm ) I have a juniper and Chinese elm so far ( got them last week) I have been reading and reading and reading and drawing and drawing just studying my trees.

As of right now, my soul mission is to keep them small, and alive! maybe next spring i will try my hand at some shaping

Would rather learn from the trees as they are alive than do something wrong and not have them anymore!

is a facebook like environment. For now foto's can be uploaded instead of film...
In near future that will be life footage as 3g and umts moves on.
