Box group.
I made this yesterday from some cuttings that i was given a few years back. I'm not quite happy with the main group but it will have to stay as it is for a while.

Nice composition Smithy! Very "Chinese" in look and feel. I would agree that perhaps the trees are bit too evenly spaced out. The spacing in these group plantings does take time to finese and develop. I have a maple forest that I've been tweaking for years Next Spring I will move a couple again in order to try and improve it once more. Great job!!

Smithy...I shall be asking you for help before long. Nice start and I look forward to seeing the progress. Details please then on what you used for a soil mix...to get it to stay as a mound?

Smithy, very nice. Yes, the spacing needs some tweaking, but the over all scene is awesome. I like your rock path. Very Penjing!

I was going to take some photos half way through but i was in a bit of a mess so i never got around to it.
I used this http://www.kaizenbonsai.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=85&products_id=641 to make a little wall all around a few inches high . I then filled it with a mix of moler and bark. I made a mound of that and transplanted the first group on the left onto it.I then added more of the keto building up the wall and filling in the gaps with my soil mix. Then i kind of squashed the keto in forming a solid mound. I then pinned the moss on .
I hope that makes sense.

Thanks Todd, i had shaped the slate and had all these bits of slate left over. Ithought i would try it out, wasn't sure if it was going to be a bit naff, my wife liked it and thats all that counts isn't it. She knows nothing of the rules but knows what she likes.

Thanks Smithy! I knew it was some kind of muck but had sort of forgotten what it was called. You have inspired me to try one of these plantings myself
