Thanks Dave. The photos don't do it justice. Having said that, some things didn't come out quite as intended. But, it won't be redone!

Here are a few closer photos of the finished large "Turtle" pot.
It measures 22 1/2" X 20 1/2" X 5".
It was made from a white clay with additives and decorative finishes including a very light green ash glaze. I didn't like the matt roughness of the first firing so I refired with two more coats of light ash glaze that I mixed some simple clear with to seal it better. the second firing left me with a finish that was a tad more glossy than I wished but still looks good and I like the final color. The pot was high fired at 2,350 degrees .
This pot will be going to the Arboretum in Asheville, North Carolina for the bonsai collection.

Wow!!! That turtle pot has beautiful glaze. I didn't know you make round and very wide ovals that large. I'd like to buy one from you. Dustin Mann

I've been making quite a few Tea Bowls lately but I've put drain/wiring holes in them for use as bonsai pots, and putting a notch in the footring to let water out. In the past I always found sales of tea bowls by a non-Asian guy from Ohio was slow. Most are regular tea bowl sizes of 5-5 1/2" with some a bit narrower. Here are two. Many more on the way.

That "Turtle" pot is quite a nice piece! I guess working at that scale one finds no need for a gym membership!

Dale,
I really like those rectangles, particularly the really dark one.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Robert.
More on the way. I'm bisqueing one right now with frogs on it. I hope that one comes out OK.

Dave,
Well, sometimes I need help. My wife used to help flip a lot but since she hurt her back it has become too risky. In case you missed them before here are a couple shots of the day I finished construction and Matt and I were flipping it back and forth to finish off the top and bottom. Matt (with his mom) sat there for a few hours watching/helping while I put it all together.
Throwing these is also starting to strain the arthritis and carpal tunnel probs a tad!
Matt has picked up some interest in pottery and has made himself some real nice scoops lately.
How are your classes coming lately?

How are your classes coming lately?
Alas Dale, this is a bad year so far. I signed up for the "Continuing Ed" ceramic studio this semester, as I did last semester. As I was literally pushing a tote of clay toward the door to load the car, the phone rang to tell me they didn't get enough to hold the class! The Con Ed stuff starts later than regular classes, so since my plate is pretty full this spring anyway and I had already missed a few weeks, I decided to get back into something in the next class sessions. There were about 14 people in the session last fall, many repeat offenders -- er -- "lifers" like myself, and suddenly it dwindled to 4. Couldn't possibly have anything to do with moving it from afternoon to morning at an arrival time finding parking almost impossible -- or that they made it Monday and Friday, vs previous Tues/Thurs kinda boxing in the weekends. Nah!
Here is last fall's efforts.
Even if I could reach your level of accomplishment, I'd probably be too old to move by the time I got there, so keep up the good work!

That SUCKS!
I guess they won't be doing any packing for you in the future.

Ouch! As we used to say back when, that's enough to p!$$ off the Good Humor Man!
That's a serious bummer. I'm afraid I don't have a whole lot of confidence in the shipping and packing folks. Early in an engineering career I spent a remarkable amount of time coming up with a shipping container that could get a fairly sensitive electronic instrument from our plant to a customer without being banged out of calibration. We tested the packaging by carefully recording data on the units, packing them up and having the company gofer toss them in the company van every day when he went out and about. Then we'd unpack and test them again. Stuff that could survive three weeks of that occasionally failed to make it through commercial shipping; one has to wonder.
Was the box damaged? It doesn't look like it in the pictures, but sometimes there are "puncture wounds" where most anything can happen.
That's really a shame. I hope you had a significant insurance amount on it, although in essence, no amount of money can replace the output of a one-off creative effort.

Dave,
reportedly no box damage, but, there probably wouldn't be much in a straight drop from the back of a truck to the ground!
I haven't got good pics of the other pot yet.
Back when I had my store I ordered two $900 large stained glass panels for a customers greenhouse. One came fine, the other, double boxed, came with a fork lift hole punched through and through! And yet it was still delivered? They were insured by the artist and she made another, so, she made $2,700 total, UPS paid out $900 and we pay for their handling!
A couple years ago I got a box of carving tools from Europe. A big hole ripped in box, some tools gone, yet it was delivered without anyone even taping over the rip in the box!
and a few more stories.....
