Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Glad to hear you know capital city of my country, Dale!Dale Cochoy wrote:Alexandra,
I just noticed you were from Athens. ... ...
Yes, old famous "Zonar's" has been gone just like a lot of old and dear places in Athens, unfortunately.... and of course in other cities, too.
Some of the streets of the neighbourhood below Acropolis, i.e. Plaka, retain the same romantic appearance. Anyway, time goes on and lots of new Cafés, bars etc have overflown the place around.... changing dramaticaly the local accent...
Thanks for your post!

What a display! Now that there's is some scale we can see how big the pots are, they always look smaller in individual photos.

Hi Dale,
This is a very nice presentation of your pots, I hope you have sold the most.
Now you can celebrate Thanksgiving for the pot.
Best regards
Peter

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Here is something not everyone gets to see or even realizes needs to happen.
I'm building a large commissioned oval pot. Here it is about 25" long and roughly 45 pounds of clay at this point. My wife usually helps me flip pots during construction steps but since she had back surgery I had my friend Matt come over today and help me flip it several times during construction. It's close to done here. If you wonder why it's tough to build large pots like this by yourself, try holding 45 pounds on two large pieces of plywood out in front of you and flipping it by yourself!
This MIGHT help answer some of the occasional questions about why potters don't often have tables filled with large handmade pots at shows.
Regards,
Dale

Nice one Dale. Now people can see what us potters have to do when constructing those Big Bad Boys

Great one. I was just wondering. I need in the future some of those myself, and I prefer large trees over small ones.
Can I ask what the price of one would be? Dont know if im allowed to ask that here. Could you if so just PM me?
Thanks.

Thanks,
Klaudia,
I guess I will slowly dry it about 3 weeks before I bisque it. Longer if I just don't have the right amounts of the right sized pots to fill the kiln right. You know how that goes!
I'm not much into 'grass pots' ( I think I'm the only one) so I usually wind up with a bunch of wasted space so at the last minute I find myself making 'grass pots' to fill all the wasted spaces.
Storm, I PM'd you.
Dale

Batuluong,
That scoop is long gone now.
The best thing you can is if you see me post something you like, capture the photo and send me a message then.
Regards,
Dale

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
I'm FINALLY getting some pots fired that have been sitting a while. Here are a couple styles of larger Land & Water scoop trays I was working on for a particular tree. With these the tree would lean out over the water area and some branches would be very close to the water.
With this one I used a slab instead of a captured 'pond' look. I think this one would look good with either water or moss in the slab.

Hi Dale,
many times I thought about a pot like the last one. I should make some finally.

Hi Dale. I love the 'reverse colouring' pot and the 'upper and lower water with snow'. You know me and your snow pots!

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Hi Dale, Lovely red grass pots..... was the red glaze one of your own recipes or was it a commercial glaze? And was the pot fired in an electric or gas kiln. I think they're absolutely fabulous. I love the intensity of the red. cheers, Dan

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Hi Dan,
A mixture of both types of glaze. I add fire place ash ( and other stuff) to many glazes and I can tell the small one on right end had quite a bit.
All were high fired in gas kiln. I no longer High Fire in electric. I'm trying to hold onto my electric kiln until I can retire!
so now I only bisque in my electric kiln, unless stuff is too big and then I bisque in the gas kiln, which I don't like doing.
