EASTERN RED CEDAR - BONSAI GETTING YELLOW
Hello,
I bought a young Red Cedar Bonsai a few month ago. Sadly it got yellow a month ago and I don't know why. Is it dead? I followed the instructions that the seller gave me and put it outside on the balcony from the day I switch on the heating in my appartement.
Do you have any idea why it's getting yellow? Should I put it back inside?
Thank you!
Maxime

If you were keeping this tree in your house, as you seem to indicate, that is where you problem hinges from. Red Cedar are temperate trees and do not do well in an indoor environment. Many people that cultivate these tree will tell you anything to get you to purchase the tree. They don't really care if the tree dies or if you will be disappointed because the tree dies they just hope you don't come back to haunt them. Usually a yellowing in color is indicative of watering problems. It could be spider mites or some sort of fungus, another problem with growing indoors.

Sorry i didn't explain clearly but the tree was healthy when I put it outside. It begun to get yellow while it was outside on the balcony.. I stopped watering it as the wether was beginning to be rainy (I live in WA) and thought it would get water naturally. This maybe is the mistake I did...

That's possible.

A young red cedar will take forever to thicken and they are not very good for bonsai. Try to get it healthy and next year wire it into a contorted shape. (they tend to grow straight and it should be wired to create interest)
In the interim get some more trees, species that are tried and true for bonsai.
