Penjing workshop with Jun
Hi IBC,
I was able to know Jun (the Master) through the IBC site. After months of looking at his work here, i had the chance to meet him in one of the bonsai garden here in Manila. The second meeting happened in a bonsai show last February while the third one was last May during the Asia Pacific Bonsai Friendship federation show. From then on, i maintain contact with him and was able to ask for his free time for a workshop in his bonsai garden. Being in his garden is a great privilege as i was able to see almost all the bonsai he posted here at IBC.
Sharing to everyone the penjing workshop i had with Jun last month.
The material: limestones, Vitex sp. and penjing pot and the process:
The output:
Penjing No. 2:
same materials but different design:
The output:
The workshop is a worthy experience. I was able to learn the basics of penjing and a lot of actual tips from an experienced bonsai artist.
Thanks for viewing.

If Jun's fingers touch a material, I believe the result will be fantastic!
Your work is really good darwin, congrats!
BTW; Jun, I see that you put weight on! I think you hired someone to carry your bonsais from/to shows

Good for you Darwin, you have seen Jun in person, and a bonus, he taught you how to make a penjing.. , for me, I never met him in person,
I only spoke to him once on a cellphone, where I was asking a discount on a knob cutter that I purchased at his bonsai gallery... ...Preng Jun, hope we can also meet in person.hehehe..

Hi Taner,
Thanks for the appreciation.
Jed,
Jun is a very approachable person. During the visit, Im a bit surprised when i found out that he is the one who really tends his bonsai's, i taught somebody is doing it for him. A very humble person also. The time i had with him is very well spent.

Most of the work here is behind the brilliant idea of Jun, Im just an apprentice in the background.
How i wish i make it in Vietnam also to join you and Jun if not for a busy schedule at work.

Always nice to get coverage of events and masters...thanks darwin.
question please....
The stone you used, limestone, does frequent watering over time affect the PH of the soil and thus the material used need to be able to deal with that soil type? I always try and find something neutral to use when it comes to PH and my slabs....thanks in advance

Re: Penjing workshop with Jun
Hi Dick,
Per my observation, the ph level of the limestone did not affect the material after frequent watering. The bonsai material i use: Tugas (Vitex sp) is a limestone based specie. Even the moss used is doing well in the stone. As far as i know, the limestone we have here is nearing the neutral ph level since it is mostly collected in cliffs or hills near seaside.
Regards,
Darwin
