Re: Potentilla from 2006
How curious. I have only praise for this tree, and i was going to make one small comment last year about the pot. With the round bottom the tree looked like it was simply tipped over, and not growing at a slant. But i decided not to comment as the tree was just so good.
Then fate intervenes and suddenly your new pot achieves the perfect proportion. Superb!

A short update of this tree.
It was time for a new pot. The last one was not perfekt for this tree.
First i tryed a Bigei pot from Tokoname. It is good but not very good.
We have a new potter in the Bonsai Club Salzburg. Fritz Baier makes amazing pots. Very Special.
So i tryed a pot of Fritz.
I know that it is not usual to plant a tree in this Position. But sometimes i leave the traditional way. The line of the pot and the line of the tree complete fine.
Yes i think we can do it.
In this Season i have to bring back the crown.
How do you think about it?

I like the tree best in the Ute's pot. Regarding the current pot. I do not mind bending the rules - in this case the pot. For me it is not a love on a first sight thought. Just my taste, but I understand that life is a change and this one is definitely interesting and surely the one that will raise emotions. And this is great about it.

Beautiful tree, but I must say I'm not very enthusisatic about the new pot...

I do like the pot - mostly because it does what you say and bends a few rules.
What I also think (only an opinion) is that your thought of reducing the crown is right - almost to the point of the very minimalist level it was in the third image in your very first post on this thread.
I quite like that idea of coming full circle.

What I meant is that so far, it doesn't match the design of the tree. Don't take offence, but it looks as if the tree had grown in an upward direction, then the pot melted in the sun. To me it doesn't make a coherent design
Maybe by wiring some branches more horizontally?
Or -if you dare!- sthg more like a semi-cascade:
But anyway, this is a great bonsai, the rest is just about personal appreciation of details.

i too initially do not like the new pot (despite not liking "rules" in general)
but i await what direction you will go with the crown and the redesign to fit the pot.

Thank you for your comments. I knew that the pot and the position the tree is planted will bring a discussion.
I do not break any rules just to break rules. I have a lot of traditional trees in my garden.
I had this tree at a Workshop with Tomohiro Masumi (one of the most respected and well-known Shohin masters in Japan).
I asked him what a japanese Master says to this tree. At this time the tree was in Ute´s pot.
He said that he likes it because Bonsai has also to go new ways.
At this tree is now something to do as you said - bring up the crown in the right Position and wire the branches in a new Position and a least to Show him with a high Shohintable. The table on the Foto is just a table to make fast Fotos in my Bonsairoom.
Fiona. if i cut again more branches to make a Semicascade, the tree would have great Problems. Look a the stem. At a Potentilla dies the lifeline if you cut a strong branch. I think this would not be good.
