Potentilla from 2006
Hallo
i want to show you my potentilla. I bought this small tree 2006.
It was a lovely small tree. But he looks to young. So i cut him back 2 years later.
But potentillas are growing very fast, so one year later in 2009 i cut him back again very hard. A old tree does not need so much branches.
One year later he looks like i want to style this tree an he got a new pot.
Spring 2012. Ok, i think he gets better and better.
This year i changed the frontside.
Potentilla, Hight 15 cm, Pot: Ute Januschka
Spring with snow in Austria.
Hope you enjoy

a great example of taking someone elses work and trully making it your own over the course of several years.
beautifully done !
i bought a couple nursery potentillas last year, but for now i can only dream of them developing as yours did...
a dream that will take many years to become a reality.

Hi Kevin,
a Potentilla is to develop very fast if the base is ok. Look at the Picture from 2009 (hard cut back) and the next only one year later.
ciao

and that is what will keep mine from developing quickly...
the trunks are interesting, but not much girth...
i plan to let them grow wild and cut back just yearly to develop the trunks...
still though, i would think potentilla will get a fat trunk faster than, say... a pine

Re: Potentilla from 2006
The diameter of my potentilla is about 3cm. And the tree is 12 cm high.

Really lovely Herbert. I do so love the original front. The banding or veins of the trunk from that side and the wonderful twists, so delightful. And with the flowers, a real heartbreaker! Thanks for sharing this gem.

Quite exquisite.
For your display I think it needs a finer table under the tree and a less bulky ji ita under the accent plant. The display is still lovely as it is though.

Absolutely not. My 50 year old potentilla is about 7cm thick.. On a good year, you might get some 2-4mm increment, when planted in full ground..

Re: Potentilla from 2006
Although it will send out numerous new branches and the top growth is extremely fast, the trunks themselves certainly do not grow quicky here in the UK. For me that's part of the attraction as they make ideal shohin candidates with more slender but interesting trunks in terms of shape and the peeling bark colours.
