Collected American Larch
The complete story of this tree and its history can be read on our blog here
A few days ago, as spring was getting all sprung, this guy started to leaf out. It comes out a little later than its Asian counter parts but that blue green foliage is so very much worth the wait. I took the next step in wiring this tree and placed some more of the large foliage areas while reducing some of the unneeded extensions as well. I've been back and forth on which side I like the best, but for now this is the front. I will be removing the left section of the tree sometime this year, it however is currently being left on to encourage a little more strength in the tree. This winter will see the fine wiring and next step to that final refined image.
The tree is not complete by any means of course but its coming along nicely, I think. The more I look at it... the less I need to wait to remove the left side.
Larch after three years of patient slow work. Left side will probably be removed.
As always comments, questions and discussion are always welcome and encouraged.

Eric,
Nice tree. Sorry, nothing to share about styling though.
I like the photo a lot...very clean but you can feel the depth.

Re: Collected American Larch
Marcus .... a very interesting option.... I do happen to like slanting trees like this... as I already have a Japanese larch that pretty much has the same lines, tho shorter and with a thicker trunk :p
It's a very dynamic change to the tree and gives a really active feel.... one concern I would have with trying to create that from this particular tree is that all the foliage you see on the left in the original picture comes from the very end of the twisted arm you see .... its a little deceiving from this angle (what I was originally trying to do) ... of course all things are possible with enough patience and brute force
I appreciate the discussion it's fun to see what other people imagine in a piece of material ...
