Old hollowed out winged elm
Here is a hollowed out winged elm i collected last spring.
Here it is today before I attempted to give it some direction. I did nothing to the dead would but run a wire brush over it a couple times. Any suggestion would be helpful, such as to how to develop the branches. I didnt get to close as most you guys would probably be horrified at my wiring (Still trying to figure out you guys never cross wires)

Looks pretty good . .. and don't fret about wiring. Wiring is a tool you use to shape a bonsai. It's not a work of art. So long as the wires are relatively even spaced, and can hold a branch to shape, a crossed wire here and there is nothing to fret about.
You probably will have to start thinking about a preservative for that dead part of the stump before long.
It looks promising. Try to use your imagination as you go on, so you don't end up with a boring tipi shaped tree over that nifty trunk.
