Re: DESIGN EXERCISE
Hey! I was about to post the same Idea Pavel!!!! hahaha! I was thinking of almost the same concept as my other sketch but with foliage variation. ....But not as good as your virt.
Now you have beaten me into posting it first. But I am happy seeing your talent with pines, transforming and applied into Asian/Chinese Penjing. Talent really is an innate thing such as yours and cannot be learned...hehehe.
Well done.

Re: DESIGN EXERCISE
Ok, two more tries - one uses the little branch in the middle but crosses the main trunk to make the apex (outside the box)
Next is a very minimal literati - crossing branches gives it a Chinese feel.

Re: DESIGN EXERCISE
what is so funny is that the entries are like a flock of sheep - at the beginning they virtually all were left to right views, then, because robert said no-one was close every tree suddenly goes right to left - very much a case of follow the leader hahaha
this is great fun, i'm going to do it with our local club
best wishes

oh yes, it is an excelent exercise - i found it funny that all first entries were quite similar, then suddenly they all changed direction and followed each other the other way.
We all really hope your design is (one of) the best !..
Its really good christmas fun, well done

Re: DESIGN EXERCISE
Dorothy, it will take centuries to grow that large branch...and it's impossible to take the rock out as it will kill the tree..
Wish you a happy holidays and all the best as well...

Re: DESIGN EXERCISE
Well..let's have it done and here what I did...
....and here is the simulated vision....
As I always say..there are always more than one option, and none is worst or best...and all of your ideas are great.
But since I will aonly send my gift to the one closest to my idea...so I think I should reward to Pavel.
(Pavel, please send me a PM with your full name, full address with tl. no)
Hope you like this special gift....
BTW, this pot will be on sale after New Year... by then, Merry X'Mas and have a Prosperou$$$$ year of 2012 !!!

Re: DESIGN EXERCISE
Well done Pavel!
What I like the most with this design of yours, dear Robert, is the fact that the stone/tree inclined line follows closely the mountains line of the drawing on the pot.
