What do you call some body who does bonsai

Hello people.

I've been thinking about this for a while now and figured I should man up and ask for the answer even if it makes me look like a total chopper.

What do you call some one who is in to or does bonsai? Tell people I do bonsai or I grow bonsai trees but is this really the right way of categorizing it? After all bonsai is a horticultural method so should it be a bonsaiest? ok clearly not that but maybe a bonsai enthusiast? Bonsai artist?

Any one else wondered this or am I on me todd?

It's rarely come up in any conversations I've had but when asked (which has only been 3 - 4 times in the past 3 - 4 years) what I do for fun, I say "I grow Bonsai trees". I'm usually met with "Oh, banzai. Where can I buy a banzai tree". So I've stopped telling people what I do for fun or how I pass my weekends.

I don't think that helps at all but my 2 pennies.

nuts , i normaly describe myself as a bonsai nut . john

my thoughts are that it doesn't matter, ultimately. your bonsai will tell people everything they need to know.

When I mention I grow BONE-sigh around here people just look at me kinda funny, so I just say I need all the pro-field conditioner cause I'm slowly building a baseball field in my back yard.

I thought so. There don't seem to be a correct/preferred way of describing some one who bonsai's. Do you think saying "I bonsai" makes sense as bonsai is an act its self?

for lack of a better term, I refer to myself as a bonsai enthusiast, should it come up in a discussion with someone who may not know me. Everyone who does already knows.

Mentally unstable.

I usually say that I keep bonsai or they keep me.

Applying grammatical precedent, probably more likely to be bonsaist as the "-ist" suffix is the most commonly used one meaning someone who does something. e.g. pianist, telephonist, receptionist. I've used the precedent to drop the "i" off the end of bonsai as that would be in keeping. "-est" as a suffix tends to be reserved for the superlative adjective.

What a boring and pedantic response! Wish I'd studied something more exciting at uni.

....errr? This is a tough one! ...a Bonsguy?-for male obviously and a Bonsgal- for the ladies. and Bonsgay -for the third sex( no offense meant here)

when you get a huddle of bonsai 'experts' finding faults in all the trees on show i guess they are a MULTI TRUNK CLUMP.

Hi All

When i a asked what I do for pleasure I then I am asked what about a Hobby I tell them I try to grow SMALL TREES since I am SMALL GUY and FEW TIMES I AM ASKED "ARE YOU REALLY"

Don't know what they meant By that !!!!!
