Casuarina with "kisses"" body
Hi IBC.
This is one of my casuarina that I am working on. The tree is very strong for the styling of secondary branches.
Which do you think should be the front?
jun for scale:
as Robert S. have said the Shari on the specie won't last forever and as a precautionary measure, the future outcome with a very little deadwood should be taken into consideration.
regards,
jun

#3 jun, and dont worry about the shari, if these are natural sharis it will last.

Thank you mang Pabling!
The shari is a combination of natural shari and sculpted deadwood. The artificial ones are showing cracks, the deadwood is getting matured and I have to rectify the miss aligned grains running crosswise/against the grain.
PS.
Hows the preparation going with the show? I got 4 trees ready by now. 1 Murraya, 2 mulawin and ficus, the 5th one probably is either Casuarina or a bluebell.

Love the third position Jun. Much more dramatic.

i think the first front (top pictures) has a nicer movement - the live viein, branches and shari all flow together in a pleasing smooth direction. the trunk base is nicer in the 3rd picture but the top of the tree is disappearing up and away from the viewer making the tree look less powerfull. I like the powerfull first & second pictures the best and if the wood does rot away in the future a new front may reveal itself.

Hi Jun,
The sculptured dead wood is not a problem too ,its dead, what is risky is making new shari from live parts, it will definitely rot even with all the lime sulphur and wood preservatives.
The preparation for the show is going on well, we are getting good support from provincial clubs , thanks for your support jun

Hi jun,
Very good work on that tree. I prefer the presentation in pic #3 myself...
The 'concave' base shows more depth in the tree therefore more 'age', the sweeping movement you've created traps your eye/attention in a circle - you follow the design and movement endlessly. I'm sure that as the foliage pads grow in there will be a good balance between the live and dead parts of the tree. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Bob!
I'll keep that analysis in mind and consider it in the future progress.

Mang Pabling,
Thanks! I'll just do minor woodworks to align the grains with the movement of the shari.

Hi Will,
thanks for the input!

Cosmos,
Thanks! Third one indeed.
You know this tree as yamadori came from an straight trunk tree with deadwood in the base.
regards,
jun
Marcus,
thank you!!!
You are right. if the deadwood doesn't really make it the first and second photo as front is the sensible choice. there is a similarity in one of Roberts steven's Casuarina that rots away with this tree of mine, It is featured in his book mission of transformation (I think). It is not that I am copying it but it can be used as a guide in thinking for the future option if the deadwood fails.
The deadwood above ground probably will make it but the one near and below soil level I think will decay sooner. and will probably affect the overall design in the future.
I hope Robert can post the image here.

Hi Jun
It will be very interesting tree. I like a nice strain. It is a big problem to collect and acclimate Yamadori Casuarina?

Pavel,
Thanks!!
Yes, Casuarina Yamadoris are one of the hardest to grow from yamadori. I find it more difficult to handle from yamadori of Phempis acidula. Unpredictable while the tree is establishing in the beginning.
