Forum/Bonsai newbie-Tree I.D.
Hello everyone. I'm new here and new to the art itself. I was just gifted a Bonsai and before I get into pruning, I want to be sure I know what species it is.
From searching around the internet I think it might be part of the genus Serissa or some type of Ficus although I'm not sure. Any insight is appreciated.

Not Serissa, very likely a Ficus, but I'm no tropical expert so I'll leave a definitive answer up to someone else.

Hello and welcome to the art of bonsai!
This is a Eugenia Myrtifolia or a myrtle leaf eugenia. Sometimes it is marketed as 'Teenie Geenie"
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Jose Luis

Thank you for the helpful replies. Am I correct in presuming that Eugenia Myrtifolia has been re-named Syzygium paniculatum (Brush Cherry)? Hopefully I am since I'm inexperienced and have read that they make for a great "beginner" Bonsai.

That is correct. There is a great deal of information out on it._PBJ_ wrote:Eugenia Myrtifolia has been re-named Syzygium paniculatum (Brush Cherry)?
