Japanese White Pine From Japan
This is a Japanese White pine that I picked up last season. It is originally from Japan. It is about 12 inches tall with close to a 3 inch base. It was roughly pre trained.
Earlier this season, I repotted it. For health reasons, it went into a slightly larger bonsai pot. No reason to cram the tree into a small pot for it's first bonsai pot. Besides the repot, I cleaned it up a bit and wired some main branches. Eventually, I will do some fine wiring and maybe take a litle bit of the bow out of some of the branches.

Great tree. Would love to see some more pictures of it. Is the tree have a graft? And you said you have only had the tree for a year, did you buy this tree from a bonsai nursury? I am looking for a tree pretty much just like this.

Hello Neil.. Yes, it is a graft, White pine onto black pine. The tree was purchased from New England bonsai Gardens and it was imported to them from Japan. I had to go through about 50-100 white pines to find this gem. This was one of the frew with a great base, no reverse taper, nice movement and branch placement. The only thing that is not eveident in the pics is the the top of the tree comes forward quite a bit. Not really a problem and if I decide it is, the tree can be bent and wired. However, at 12 inches tall with about a 2 3/4+ base, it is a stunning tree for it's size.

lovely find - its so unusual to get one where the graft is high up and you get an entire black pine trunk - looks very natural rather than a bulge half way up from lower grafts.

You are a lucky man living so close to a large bonsai nursury. I agree with Marcus the graft does look natural. What a great tree hope to see more of this one in the futute.

Thank you marcus and Neil... Yes, the nursery is about 1 hour from me.. Not too bad.. I actually worked there all last season.. Which is one of the reasons I found this gem. When you work at a nursery. You get to see everything coming in
