Satsuki Azalea Pruning help

Hi,

I have an azalea that has finished blooming but am unsure whether to cut these (see image below circled in red). Is this a seed pod? Are there any good books that would explain in detail with photos the pruning process for azaleas treated as bonsai? Sorry for my ignorance, I appreciate your help thanks.

Yes, that is the beginning of a seed pod and should be removed. Callahan's Satsuki Azaleas is a good place to start.

Gene is correct. Callahan's book is good, as are Satsuki and Floral Treasures of Japan, both by Alexander Kennedy, but these may be hard to find.

Peter Adams' "The Art of Flowering Bonsai" does a good, concise job of explaining Satsuki and Kurume azaleas -- and many other flowering bonsai.

The other books may be a bit much for someone with one Satsuki.
