As part of our 10th Anniversary year celebrations,The Swindon and District Bonsai Society are pleased to announce that at our Winter Image show,to be held on the 19th February 2012,will feature an exciting new exhibit section.
This special exhibit section of the show will be organised in conjunction with the British Shohin Association (BSA), and will feature a top class Shohin and Mame display show and competition, featuring some of the best Shohin and Mame Bonsai in the UK.
There will be no single tree exhibits, and all displays will contain a minimum of two trees. The competition will be open to BSA members and non-members alike. All the exhibit tables will be pre-prepared, fully covered and complete with background screens to ensure a consistent high standard of display throughout. So,all you have to do is turn up with your trees and stands and arrange your displays. Trophies will be awarded for Best Shohin display and also Best Mame display.
Please send details of each of the display(s) that you would like to submit for consideration for entry into the show to the Chairman,Paul Bowerbank at

The details you need to subit for each display are:-

overall width of the whole display in cm.
NB Please note that as a guide the Mame size limit will be approximately 10cm from soil surface and the Shohin limit approximately 25cm from soil surface.

It’s really good to see the Swindon Winter Image show going from strength to strength. It’s also particularly pleasing to learn of another specialised show and competition for Shohin bonsai in the UK too. The date is in our diary! Good luck guys.

Andy is right on... "a jewel in the crown"... but more descriptive would be "A ray of sunshine in the dark winter months."
if you want to know what all the fuss is about here is a link to 'this' years show on IBC Swindon 2011
I will be showcasing for the first time the 'COMPLETED' story of the creation of the BIG Escallonia (seen here on IBC in various stages)... and for you guys that were there this year... the NEW separate hall for presentations should ensure that EVERYONE gets to see the demos etc.

Entries for the Shohin/Mame competition at the 2012 'Winter Image' show has now closed.
We have had a good response to it and I can now say that there will be 25 small tree displays, covering an area of 114 ft of table space.
There will also be 15 Clubs/Societies joining the Swindon club in displaying a variety of trees.
Eight Individual tree exhibitors will have another 14 trees and there will be 14 Traders selling everything that you may need.
A large number of traders have already kindly donated items for the raffle that will be held during the show, so make sure that you get your tickets early. Some of the items can be found on the Swindon web site at http://swindon-bonsai.co.uk/
There are Six tree awards which have been sponsored by John Pitt Bonsai Ceramics,........ http://johnpittbonsaiceramics.co.uk/
Walsall Studio Ceramics are creating a special pot as an award for the best tree/pot combination...... http://www.walsall-studio-ceramics.com/
And John Trott of Mendip Bonsai Studio are making an award for the best accent....... http://www.mendipbonsai.co.uk/
This years show will also be opened by the Swindon Mayor

AHHhhh, the joys of living across the pond.
Don't forget that for us that have time and distance apart from "what's happening", you are our eyes and ears.
