Re: Round tew on the big Yew
Hi Will,
Now I know why you are called Will "The Deadwood" Baddeley (double entendre apart). Some exceptional work very very patiently done. I am sure it is worth the time invested. All the best for today.... And BTW some excellent Macro Photography. Curious to know the camera and the lenses involved....

Hello Ravi. The camera is a Canon 550D with the standard 18-55mm lens.
Today went well, and I achieved what I wanted. I will be carving again tomorrow and this time have uploaded some pics to my blog. http://wildwoodbonsai.blogspot.com/2011/05/taxus-baccata-big-boy.html

Re: Round tew on the big Yew
Hey Will Thanks for sharing. I also liked the pics of your yesterday's work in your website. Excellent tree and I am sure that when you do the finishing touches next year it will be a masterpiece and probably a winner at say Noelanders??? All the best!!

Thanks Ravi and Yan. I just love turning relatively boring and free material into something old and hopefully convincing.

And you turn them in old convincing trees!
If you have the time to come to belgium you can work on some Sylvestris yama to make them even more convincing

Will,
On your blog there is a pic of a scraper tool which is circular with what looks like a saw blade edge to it . The whole thing is held in a white plastic handle with the blade riveted to it.
Who makes it and what is it's 'name' please?

Hello Dave. Spot on with the bark stripping tool. It was made for me by one of the club members in Denmark, The blade is from a hacksaw(metal saw), heated, bent and riveted through a rigid urethane pipe. A very handy tool and I will take a picture tomorrow.

Thanks Will,
At first I thought it was a junior hacksaw blade, looks a useful tool.
Just love the tree and carving as does Geoff Crowe!
