Cheers Will, the good news is, I have 1-6 and a similar 7, bad news is, I'm a long way off turning out that sort of work!!
That's going to be a really nice tree mate.

Practice, practice, practice. I found it useful to study and photograph trees deadwood on full sized trees. Build up an album to refer to.

Sorry Will
Don't mean to highjack your post....But it just happens when Peter is around...It won't happen again
Yes Peter, I am going to the convention ;-) See you there, soon...[BTW:] I don't think the Psychopath Pinnochio has yet been unleished...your nose is too short.

I don't think many people appreciate the amount of hours required to produce this level of refinement. You really have to set a few days aside to get it done right for each tree. Funny you should mention an album, I have a folder on the computer with deadwood photos. Your Elm and now Yew are in it along with work by Kevin Willson, Marc Noealanders, Graham Potter and a few others.
Happy carving

WOOOAAHH . Is that a Mole I see in the left Makita? A truly awesome and random carving tool, that takes you were it wants to go.

Just got it Will, and only had the one run out with it. It reaches all those awkward spots with ease, but it's a touchy bu@@£r!! Firm grip required

Re: Round tew on the big Yew
Finished work early so got my tool out and had another fiddle. The side walls were thinned and refined and some more holes were added, so that it looks like an old lowland tree. I'm more or less happy with the front now and it looks pretty much like the right side. A few more pictures to look at. Left and back to go and I have all day tomorrow.

Re: Round tew on the big Yew
Thankyou Sam and everyone for the kind comments. It's a big day tomorrow as I'm going to attempt to close the gap in the deadwood. I'm going to try and bend the left side in to the right, creating better movement and taper. If you don't hear from me tomorrow, you know it has all gone disasterously wrong.

Don't you UK folks refer to that as "things going terribly pear-shaped"?? LOL
