Hi Mark
Still think Ritta,s mixed planting accent should have won ,one of her best I thought.
Thanks for the photo of my Mame Jeremy, great pic and the one of the Henk Frensen bronze
Thanks Bob I'll pass on your comments to Ritta, who's currently in Sweden at the moment. So here's a pic of the aforementioned Shitakusa with "boxing hares" bronze.

Don't suppose there's a web site show-casing these little Bronze's ?

Re: Wessex Show 2011
What I liked in one of the pictures was the scroll with a photograph of a waterfall.
No doubts the purists will be cowering in a corner screaming quietly to themselves while waiting the men in white coats!
But some time ago I gave a small talk to some of the members of Wessex regarding making scrolls for themselves, using textured Vymura wallpaper . I know, but it provides a cheap alternative to those who cannot afford the real thing and looks presentable, IF,the correct type is used (no Thomas the tank engine wallpaper please) .
Some of them said that they would be unable to paint a theme to go on the scroll, so I suggested the use of suitable photographs such as ponies in a New Forest setting as an example.
Well done to the exhibitor for the use of the photo!
Dave Martin.

Re: Wessex Show 2011
John Geanangel and Ken Duncan used photos in their exhibit at the Carolina Expo in 2009 (HERE ) and I thought it worked really well as they were an integral part of the exhibit. The judges obviously thought so too.
I have however also seen photos and paintings shoved into to displays with no real thought, possibly because the exhibitor thought it looked "Japanese" to stick in a daub of Mount Fuji. To me they just looked kitsch, but then again so do ill-chosen scrolls.
Invention/Innovation is great as long as the thought process is there I reckon.

I totally agree Fiona the hanging of scrolls is an integeral part of bonsai and an art in its self , seasons, direction, flow, content etc to name just a few of the considerstions when hanging one, at our club
New Dawn Bonsai we have spent a lot of time studying the art of scroll hanging, and with the invaluable help
of who we we consider to be an expert in this field " Mr Paul Goff " a fantastic artist and maker of stunning
scrolls and there illustrations, we give every consideration before we hang a scroll in our displays, such is the
complexity we are learning something new every time, accent planting is another story, used but not fully understood, everything relating to "Bonsai" has a meaning and purpose as everything in Japanese culture is apt to be.
