Re: Juniper - Root Over Rock
Interesting design Bry... something I've not seen before. For innovation I'd say a perfect 10. I mean your composition is actually a blend of root-over-rock and a (semi??)cascade. The foliage pads are nicely developed and I guess all that remains is that the roots need to settle on the rock and into the soil so that the supporting wires can be done away with.. Great work... Keep it up....

Bry,
Like what Ravi said. Interesting design, my only concern is the pot, IMHO it didn't match the concept. I know juniper needs lot of root space, probably just the shape of the pot.

jun

Thanks Ravi
Thanks Jun
It was a Cascade, but it was squeezed tightly into a tall hexagonal pot which had to go back to its original owner. It was down to a repot, the tree must have been in the pot a few years, there was hardly any soil and the roots extensively tangled. I'd hand crafted the pot at the end of last year during a Club weekend, and without another to hand at the time, i took the longest cascade pad off. Potted it up into this one. The roots now have plenty of room to grow and bring some strength back to the tree. Wires now support the tree in the pot.
Still think theres a lot of work to do in sorting the 'cascade' out. I'm just not happy with it.
Cheers

... I love the stand (box) too. It gave me some idea.
seriously. the green shade in the third and fourth photos are perfectly below the cascade...green shadow, that creates balance.

Thanks everyone for your input...
Jim I was very tempted at losing the cascade element of the tree, but again Pavel has saved the day... That virtual is outstanding. Just leaves it to me to work at it. It does almost look real as well!
A shallow pot in the future would definitely compliment the vision.

Bry, I like your juniper concept. I especially like Pavel's virtual for this tree's potential. I like the pot, too.

Thanks Todd
I hand made the pot last year, with expert help from Walsall ceramics, pottery day for our club.
No ones noticed the mucky finger prints on it yet =)
I'll be finding this tree to help with development this year. I'll hopefully have an update of this tree's future.

Just a new photo update for my juniper
I took the image that Jim Lewis posted and the virtual Pavel created and set about refining the tree and the foliage pads all last summer. Quite a way to go but its looking better :)
