Two Casuarinas on slab
Hello IBC people!
Combined two of my Casuarinas.
The materials:
after initial design...
I'm not satisfied with the result so back to the drawing board...
the slab I made last year finally found partners...
hey Will and John Leonard...I made the carving (shari) on the right side tree...I dug deeper like you gentlemen had advice on my other casuarina.
top rear view...
No Front photo yet, I'm not yet done wiring and choosing branches.
regards,
jun

Re: Two Casuarinas on slab
Great ides, my problem would be moving the thing. How many men are required?

Hi Billy.
Thanks!
two to three man to carry the composition.
It's not super big, 90cm ht of tallest tree from slab. total length of slab 120cm.

jun

Re: Two Casuarinas on slab
Hi Jun
Great material as usual, no doubt about that. However, IMHO I would have preferred that you work on the individual trees separately and not put them together. They both have great trunk movement and deadwood features. By putting them together besides creating the problem of transport, (again IMHO) you are creating too much 'visual happening' that would overwhelm the beholder.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Two Casuarinas on slab
Jun, despite the volume (that's your problem to carry them...) I think I like these two trees on that slab.
But I have a question (which may not have a reason -beginner here, remember?).
Well, the tree at left side is styled wind swept, isn't it?
The tree at the right side is not, is it?
Do you think this is a discrepancy or something?
Thank you.
PS: I am going to start my own experiments with paper cement...., perhaps you could be kind enough to treat me with some tips Thank you!

Re: Two Casuarinas on slab
Thanks Alexandra.
The tree on the right (same as the left) is still being refined to be a true windswept. the more important thing is the trunk movement. It should follow the flow of the whole composition, branches will still be developed further later. the right side tree is not as healthy as the left side tree, so not much branch reduction to avoid branch die backs. It will be addressed later on. thanks again for the concern.
I'll always exchange weight with good design., this composition doesn't belong to my heavyweight trees, so no problem moving this tree around. the slab btw is hollow concave and not too heavy.

jun

Thank you Pak.
I didn't use paper with this slab. different formula and technique. paper cement will have different texture.

Re: Two Casuarinas on slab
Hi IBC.
This is the Casuarina that was damaged during the show here and after the show. I never thought the tree would ever recover again from the abuse and torture.
I let the trees recover separately while I am designing a light weight slab for the new composition.
Would you believe somebody poured in used oil at the slab? that's the reason for the dark color at the right side of the base of the tree.
The first picture below was right after the show... I washed the oil with dish washing soap and dipped the tree for more than 3 hours in a bucket full of soap after removing the entire soil and affected roots. Then I hanged the tree in the rain all night long.
Some evil people lives among us...hehehe.
Next time I'll hang somebody upsidedown in a bucket of soap...hehehe. just kidding, I'm a peaceful person.
the tree ready for action again...

jun
