First slab planting.
This is my first go at planting on a slat slab. The elm was a £6 one from homebase which was a bit of a mess when i got it . The base of the tree is flat with a couple of roots coming from the one side so no nebari . I need to find some moss to put on the muck but I'll have to wait for the snow to go.

I bet that elm looked nothing like the way it does now when you first bought it………nicely done!

Outstanding tree Smithy. Love the overall composition. Beautiful rock.
You don't always need to spend £££s to achieve amazing results.
Great job.

I really like this one. Its kinda simple, but then again, not. There is something with the way the rock also compliments the tree. Kinda fills the gap beneath it. I dont have much "knowledge" about what makes a good bonsai, but to me this is one.
On a side note, the rock can in a way look like little dog sleeping. (Although, it must be huge since it is a big tree)

Looks really good, especially for the amount of money spent.
Two constructive points to make as you develop the tree: 1) Need to try and develop a couple of surface roots to improve the stability 2) a back branch would be great as it would fill some of the negative space along the right of the trunk.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Steve,
Always sad when you lose one ,but makes room for some more. It shows you don't have to spend a lot to have a nice display.
