Kingbean,

I don't know about sources in the UK or Europe but these are two good US sources for woody tree and shrub seed.

Chiltern Seeds, Bortree Stile, Ulverston, Cumbria, LA12 7PB Tel 01229 581137 Catalogue lists hundreds of interesting seeds with a symbol to indicate suitability for bonsai. There are some that aren't given a symbol, so a thorough read is essential. Chiltern Website http://www.chilternseeds.co.uk/

Andrew Norfield Seeds Tel 01291 650306 Supply specially treated pregerminated seed, taking a lot of the uncertainty out of germination. The catalogue lists hundreds of tree seeds, most of which are suitable for bonsai.

These are from one of my articles on trees from seed here http://www.vocbonsaisociety.co.uk/seed1.html

kingbean,

I don't know if these are quality seeds, but both Dallas Bonsai and Bonsai Boy of Brooklyn supply Japanese seed in vacuum sealed packs.
Both companies are on-line and B.B of Brooklyn is also on Amazon US.[ seeds however ultimately are imported by Dallas Bonsai - packs have germination instruction.]

I can only really speak for the Japanese Black Pine seeds. There are two types, and both germinate promptly in 10 days and for about 2 weeks or so. No treatment is needed, just sterile soil and keeping it moist.

But I also have packs of different maples and elms.
Seeds are airmailed to you.
Oh, and I don't know if they ship out of the US, since I have a skybox in Florida, that re-ships to me in the Caribbean.

Chilterns was my supplier, before the Internet, very reliable, by snail mail.

I believe Morgans seeds also had a Japanese black pine seed pack, as I have one really strong pine from a germination of [ pack had 31 seeds ] 29 seeds.
Hope you get want you want / need.
