styling twin trunk murraya
styled a tree today...I want to share it with you.
Im designing this tree using wiring and clip and grow method.
comments and suggestions are most welcome;
before
during styling and studying the future outline of the tree
reduced the height a bit
below are some angles after some branch reduction and defoliation
the nebari of this tree is quite okey so choosing front is not much of a problem...but you can suggest which is best.
thanks!
regards,
jun

Jun,
Nice work. I think I prefer the last shot as the front but you would be able to decide more easily in person.

Thanks Jerry,
actually that last photo used to be the back a long time ago...but during the process of the tree's development it also developed a good angle for viewing and it lessen the sling shot effect of the twin trunk if viewed from there.

Jun,
that's a beautiful tree.
I think you know what you want to do, and it will be fine for the viewer.
Keep up the most excellent work !

Re: styling twin trunk murraya
I like the last photo too(like Jerry Meislik). Lots of fronts you could go with but last photo has more design harmony in terms of branch direction. The other possible fronts(for me) either have apex moving away or has one trunk moving in one direction(ie. forward) and other trunk moving in different direction(ie. back or out) I think with full canopy the last photo presents look of unity of a twin trunk. Hi Jun,
The fifth and sixth photos show the best lines of the tree IMHO. #6 takes the lead. Nice tree!

Re: styling twin trunk murraya
hi Jun,
I like the tree, not a standard design - have great potential
the murraya in the nurserie near me has quite a big compound leaf
in your tree the leaf looks small :
1. did you cut it before the picture was taken or does the size of the leaf rduce dramaticly over time ?
2. can you upload a close up on the leafs with something in the picture for refference ?
10x very much

The balance,
here is another one with leaves on it.
the leaves will reduce dramatically in due time. I defoliate all my murrayas at least 2 times ayear.
thats an orange pingpong/table tennis ball by the side for your scale reference
here is a murraya which is never been cut yet...leaves are still relatively large

Re: styling twin trunk murraya
Jun,
I was just about to go out and dig up every murraya I have in the backyard.
They grow wild here.
Here is what we call - murraya - sweet lime.
The bark is also flaking in strips and white / off white.
[ This is what I believe the Chinese use for their penjing ] and I think it is murraya paniculata, there is also a murraya exotica.
Thanks for the even more beautiful specimen. Size ?
