phempis..to buy or not to buy.
Hi again IBC,
A friend of mine is selling most of his trees, reason- change of hobby. he offered me this tree at a cost much lower than its market price. I rarely acquired trees which is nearing completion (a matter of personal damn pride of mine)...but I really like this tree...love at first sight I guess. As if we are meant for each other.
to buy or not to buy.. that is the question.
regards,
Jun

Zen,
like I said, its lower than its market price locally that is. as per international price...its way much lower, probably for you guys, its equivalent to a day work pay. cant tell you the actual price ...Fiona, Jim and the other moderators will ban me from this forum...no selling here. sorry.

Forget your pride. There are many who will never get the opportunity to look after such a fine tree and you can put your mark on it too. Go for it before someone else does.

....got extra bonus guys. just talked to my friend. told me the tree is planted on a rock under the soil...the original rock when the tree was collected. probably i can add this feature to my design.

Hi Jun, this tree is lovely and if you can afford it, buy it. You won't sleep until you do!
The tree needs someone like you who cares about it and can love it dearly!

Jun,
I agree if the price is right you should definitely buy it. Over time you can make the tree your own. From what you have shown here in this forum you have a great ability to see new images for your trees, and I think you will be able to apply your eye to this tree. A bonsai is never really completed, they only reach a point where the image is pleasing for the time being. Good luck with this one.

Howzit Jun,
It's really all up to you. The question you have to ask yourself, "Do I want it?, Do I really need it?". Then go from there. It's a beautiful tree for sure but you have to do what you think is right for yourself.

Re: phempis..to buy or not to buy.
Thank you guys for all of your advice...
it really is a lovely tree. if i will acquire this tree I already got a plan for the design to enhance the beauty of this tree. nothing drastic and dramatic. Just extend all the foliage mass further to the right with very fine tips on all the right end of the foliage edges with heavier group mass on the left side, this way the birds nest effect of its current foliage design will be avoided.then create a little swaying effect for all the individual foliage mass... then its gonna be a perfect wind swept tree. even the current jins are perfect for this design.

Hi Jun,
We are very lucky that Ted is quitting the hobby. Thanks to him we were able to acquire good specimens at a very low price. Is that Da's hand holding the plyboard?

Hi Jun,
I'm coming in on this one late. I'm glad you decided to buy this tree because it was going to cost me some money to come all the way over there to kick your butt if you didn't! You've told us before how hard it is to find, much less collect, these old pemphis. Why hesitate? What are the chances you'd get an opportunity like this again? The fact that your friend is willing to sell it to YOU at a really good price should tell you something. I'm glad you got over your "pride" about acquiring a tree "which is nearing completion". Like so many others have told you, there's still plenty of time and tree for you to make it your own. I doubt your friend expects you to keep it just as he sold it to you. Every artist sees something different, and it can be changed and improved at any stage of the game. No one is going to think you less of an artist because you bought someone's design. As you can see from the responses, everyone thinks you'd be a fool to pass up this opportunity - an opportunity we'd all love to have!

Alexandra,
As for the acquisition of the tree...its top secret as of the moment, after I posted it here some people rushed to the place of Tedd to buy the tree. but, how do you say it in english...ahh.."the cat with nine lives is in the bag".
Youl probably laugh when I tell you the reason why he quit the hobby. il send you PM on this.

Re: phempis..to buy or not to buy.
Hi Jun,
I was fortunate enough to acquire one of the agohos last summer. I was tempted to buy more of the casuarinas since they are hard to find but taking good care of them is another story so I only bought one. It is good to know that they are now in good hands proof of that can be seen from photos that you have the posted.
Some of my friends from the UP Bonsai Group were able to buy more than 12 Trees. It was really a treat
