rebirth of forest elm- one died new form took place
Hi.
upon my inspection of my elm forest, i found out that one of my elm died of natural cause...cant compete with other trees (RIP). i try to revive it but i failed. i had a plan to replace the dead tree, but during the process i have found a rebirth of my forest in a different form... and here it is.
remember this forest? such a happy time we had
the weak shall perish! RIP comrade
but the other side of the forest is thriving, this is the back... the smallest tree got a best profile...i can use this.
this is the front now, used to be the rear... instead of replacing the dead tree, i decided to remove one living tree instead to come up with 5 trees... and the journey of life of this forest continue in another form.
regards,
jun

A massive improvement Jun. The first picture looked far too cluttered. The planting does look a bit flat though, as in depth but this is due to the narrow pot. I was wondering if you rotate the planting more anti clockwise, so that the large tree comes more to the front and closes up the gap in the middle slightly. It would then have to go in a slightly broader pot though.

The "new" forest I find even better. More simple and more peaceful. Also the main tree stands out bigger and more powerful. Congratulations with the evolution :-)

Will,
thanks.
il look into it, il try to pull the big tree in front first where the dead tree used to be then move the left most tree further to the back. still got lot of space in this pot... used to be seven trees.

Try photographing the composition a bit more to the left before you start pulling the trees apart. Would be interesting to see.

will,
i made some minor adjustment, i just gave it a little push, nothing major on the roots.
this is the left side view pics before i made the adjustment. notice the unpleasant form of the "S" elm in the left (i really hate and love this elms).
with some perspective solution... i moved it a few yards away.
now... my grandpa is ready for fishing..

That's a great change. This is a good testiment to "less is more"! The "wild jungle" now looks like a peaceful serene landscape! Good work! Salut, Todd

I walk to your forest and I have honestly to say: really nice to sit under the main tree of your forest in the shadow on a hot day!
Well done!

Thank you Rob.
every piece of tree is important for me...no matter how many I got.

jun
John,
thanks.
no cold here. these elms won't defoliate by itself. I saw many elms here died because of neglect and treated like typical tropical trees.
If i don't defoliate the trees at least once a year, the leaves turned dark green and crispy/brittle, then some white crack lines appear on leaves next thing branches die backs, and finally the tree died for lack of photosynthesis.

JUN,,, I figured the temp. would be the problem..the leaves do the same here if it gets cold then warms up again... one question, the small tree on the right, could it be standing more up right??? not critising s.p. but it looks like it is falling out of the pot...it may be the angle of the picture,,no matter anyway...take care create more john

Hey Jun,
If you've still have the dead tree why not put it back in your forest..............it's (death) all part of a natural forest (I know very controversial), maybe tip it on an angle like its been blown over by the same storm that washed away the soil from the roots......
