Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Folks ,Thanks for the concern and good thoughts. We are both mending, albeit slowly.
While I had some time I managed to put together another photo article for Paul Stokes' "ofBonsai Magazine". It is about a huge Arborvitae group planting I did this spring with the help of Gib Butler from the Akron, Ohio club. We used 5 VERY old, large plants from Canada and Nova Scotia. I had 10 to pick from in my collection and we settled on 5.
Please give it a read and let me know what you think.

Hi Dale,
A great story and I really like the forest, reminds me of the ancient rain forests we have here in the PNW. I look forward to seeing what you do with it over the coming years.
Sending along best wishes on your recovery.
Cheers
Graham

Dale,
Good to see you back on line.

Quite a project that was!

Dale it does take time but will get there in the end. I'm talking from experience, some years ago now i fell through a roof is working on and did some serious damage to my spine.
Take it easy don't rushing things ( i learned this the hard way unfortunately) build your strength back up gradually.
Take care
cheers

Thanks guys,
Vic, I also did just about the same thing years ago, I had a serious fall in the Navy aboard ship at 23 years old. It put me out of the Navy after 4 yrs, 3mo in. I bounced better 40 years ago!

Great to see you back online, Dale. Take it easy. We all need you to make a full recovery, but in your body's own time!

Dale, I'm glad to hear that you are getting better. I enjoyed reading about your cedar group planting and like your composition. Do you have to provide extra protection for the cedars in Ohio for the Winter?

todd, I just normally set the pots on the floor of my unheated greenhouse which is only a few degrees above outside, but, no wind. This group will PROBABLY just be set on the ground behind the bench it's on and then mulch in the pot. It will be fairly well protected from the wind there. Too much trouble to get moved back/forth to the greenhouse.

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Here is a shot of the "Ohio Serpent Mound" pot I made for Mitch Boatman of "Cedarbog Bonsai" in Ohio.
It is unglazed and hand-carved with a re-calculated aspect ratio so as to fit on the height of the pot he requested. A bit of work in tracing / redrawing a photo of the mound.
Mitch took this picture with his daughters kitty.

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
A new GINKGO pot with some great flame markings. I figured i better get some of these made while I still have leaves.
A large banded oval with unglazed finish.
A new style/technique. I made a smaller one of these with an attached base in a shohin size a while back as an experiment. I liked it but that pot got destroyed when my van was rolled over and totalled, along with LOTS of pots.
I made some bigger ones and here is the largest. An arched pot w/ feet and a very wide rim.
