British Shohin Association First Pix and Movies
Here are some images and movies from the British Shohin Association annual Show at Willowbog Bonsai.
Some of the IBC Members who were there!
And the winner of the Styling competition... our Very own Mod FIONA who faced tough competition from Simon, Tony Franklin and Simon Jones... Cummon FI!
here is one of many movies that I made. the lighting was not really conducive to video... but you get the idea and scale.

Wonderful stuff. Thanks for posting, Tony. Makes me even sadder that I couldn't make it. I'll see you at Bath though.
Congrats to Fiona. Well done!

Hi,
Looks like a fine show and a great advert for British bonsai.
Thank you for posting Tony.
Congrats to you Fiona, does that make you a professional?
Hope you all and your trees got home safely.

Re: British Shohin Association First Pix and Movies
Some people may have already picked out a nice display which for me was the highlight of the exhibition. It was this rack display by Bob Bailey:
But what Tony's video doesn't make absolutely clear (and what made it so amazing for me an many others) was the size of the trees. Not one of them was more than 4 inches (10cm) at its widest/tallest point!
Here are the individual trees in close up. Superb!
White Pine
Itoigawa Juniper
had no label but am reliably informed it is a Japanese Ligustrum
Japanese Quince
Trident Maple
Accent plant in pot the size of a big thimble

Hi,
Congratulations to all on a great show, and thanks to Tony and Fiona for posting the pics.
Bob Bailey's Mame display was particualrly beautiful and noteworthy. The tree which was identified in Fiona's pic as a Japanes Quince is, if I am not mistaken, a Japanese Ligustrum (Ibota). Also, just for the record, the little tree identified as a Cotoneaster in the beautiful blue / white pot is a Chojubai.

You're right Mark, The Quince title should have gone on the one in the blue/white pot - have amended as such.
The other one didn't have a name on its label, on it so I'll take your suggestion of Ligustrum as accurate.
Many thanks.
next time I'll put my contact lenses in before posting

Fantastic weekend, including the snow, with some stunning trees.
Super company, excellent food (as usual) and the wonderful friendships that this thst this event has produced and maintained is not to be underestimated.
The trees, as can be seen above, were outstanding but what blew me away was that every display was presented so, so well. They were all well thought out and executed to a very high standard. I am privelidged to have had some of my trees in such good company.
In closing I would like to thank the BSA for organising such a thought provoking show and a special "thank you" to everyone who helped me and offered to assist me in the future. You guys know who you are but you are responsible for moving my bonsai on so much in the last 12 months. Cheers!!!!
Okk, Okk,

Very nice show. Tony's video whet my appetite for more photos. Please
I am impressed by the quality of the stands. I really like the one with the roof. Very original.

from left to right: Steve "Harleyrider", new member Paul Burke, me (I'm not this wee- I'm standing down a dip in the floor), someone called Tony who kept following us around, Janice and Matt Addie. In the other room were Ian Warhurst, Andy Hardman, Les S, Simon "Bonsai Monkey", Graham Walker, Duncan H and several others who didn't make the photo for reasons which had nothing to do with being shy and everything to do with there being food on the go.
Hang on... what the heck was I doing in that pic?

Hi Tony
thanks for the mediation of interesting events. This way creates an interesting history. And not just trees.

Great stuff Tony. Is the last vid called "spot Fionas Pie" ? Leaving the remnants on someone else's table is a cunning plan but you don't fool me!!

Ah c'mon Will! There was cutlery on that plate! I'm from Greenock - cutlery is for the posh folk.will baddeley wrote: Is the last vid called "spot Fiona's Pie" ? Leaving the remnants on someone else's table is a cunning plan but you don't fool me!!
AND, even more telling evidence that that was not my pie:
There was a bit left on the plate!

Not fair, not fair, not fair!!!! Wish I could have gone
Looks like you all had an excellent weekend, with excellent displays and excellent friends and fun. Due to family commitments this year was a no go for me but I shall make the journey for the next show.
Fiona
Any chance you can email me the pictures of Sue winning her pot. Simon says you have a few. Cheers
Regards to all

Re: British Shohin Association First Pix and Movies
For those who might be wondering what Andy was referring to in his post, he very generously donated an award to the show for the best tree and pot combination. The prize was a delightful specially created (and therefore unique) Stone Monkey pot in a presentation box.
The award was won by Sue Summers - a BSA stalwart who has an enormous passion for Shohin and has made them her priority over the past few years.
Anyway, here she is looking modest as ever, receiving her award from Peter Warren, one of the keynote demonstrators at the event. Well deserved. Well done Sue.
