Just a note: When someone puts a picture on this site, it is NOT in the public domain. The person who posts the picture (or writes the words, for that matter) retains the copyright on that picture or those words.

An ethical person who wished to download one or more of the pictures would ask the person who placed it there for permission. He or she would -- or would not -- receive that permission. If it was not granted, the ethical person would not download it.

It appears that some have circumvented this entire process here.

It is against our rules and against International copyright law to use material that belongs to another without their express permission. The copyright resides with the creator of the image whether it is a drawing or a photograph. I am deeply saddened that Pascal has had to withdraw his wonderful artwork from in front of us all, due to the inconsiderate use of them by another. I hope that Pascal can find out who is responsible for the theft of his intellectual property and I suggest he offer to prosecute them to the maximum extent allowed by law.

Thank you for posting this image and all the others in the past. Your artwork is exceptional and inspiring; I only wish I had the opportunity to see your entire portfolio on your bonsai art.

P@scal, I have no experience using them, but there are digital watermarks that can be added to images which you post online. They can even track where they are published elsewhere. Simpler, perhaps adding a watermark using Photoshop or similar program might make it less desirable to steal. It would degrade the image somewhat, but at least the basic image could be shared.
