Shohin Display
I am looking for opinions on whether it is kosher to mix tropicals and temperate in the same display. I think David De Groot said no. I just don't have enough trees & not likely to collect that many more. In my display last weekend I had tropicals & subtropicals on the stand, but I had a Shimpaku as the helper with it. Not trying for Gafu Ten, but wondering if the experts find it acceptable.

Re: Shohin Display
Iris,
I have seen photos of shohin displays which mix tropical and hardy species. I've seen them in Bonsai Today magazines and you may find some in the National Exhibition photo albums published by William N. Valavanis. (BTW, the National Exhibition albums are excellent.)
Now for the question, are they a no-no in classical bonsai? I don't know. Maybe others can tell us. Better yet, maybe Bill Valavanis will tell us.
Best regards,
Augustine
