Re: Get wobbly in yo' backyard?
You have about the same amount of trees/bonsai as I do. However for me pool and bonsai garden or shelf [exposition] doesnt go together. With pond "yes" thats tradition. You probably like to have both: bonsai & pool. Me when I was buying house was NO pool NO fireplace. We are all different, right?.

If it was in England of course we'd fill the pond with Koi Carp and go down the local indoor swimming pool instead of freezing like Japanese Monkeys in the pool....................................

Re: Get wobbly in yo' backyard?
Nice how it's spread out, perfect for meandering(my favorite sport!). I have about 30 plants all crammed together into the only area of the back yard with 6 hours of sun. I keep hoping my neighbor's ginormous silver maple, the one with squirrels running up and down inside it's main branches, will keel over, but I have had that hope for 22 years...
Really like the multi-level display up against the house!

Ok, here's mine. A humble start, and still a few I can't fit on there.
6 blocks, $6
5 bases, $6
3 2x8's, $24
Our dog chasing the squirrel marauders away w/o jumping up on the boards, priceless!

I'll try to post some photos tonight. The ones you circled are Nomad Johnnys. Bougie in the foreground, the one in the corner is over on the ACC blog and that one along the solid plastic fence is a Japanese Maple we repotted this year. It needs some work but has got trunk. A little neglected, (same gentleman that I got my two-trunk JBP from)at some point in the future dependent on it's vigor, grafting will be tried. Glad you like, though it's not mine, it's still in the compound and is part of the ACC brotreehood, if you will. That goes for all our roots......

Re: Get wobbly in yo' backyard?
Kevin since you ask, the one on the right is the 'Forest Reclaims the Stone' ficus I did with my son. May have posted it elsewhere, but will now below. The one on the right is a ficus with promise with which I have, frankly, lost my way . The jade forest on the left I will post right now in the Questions forum, b/c I would like people's input on the next step.

Re: Get wobbly in yo' backyard?
hey nomad johnny (because i know your looking over your partners shoulder):
that trunk on the bougie ?
CRAZY HOLLOW !!!
"how in the hell does that trunk support that crown?" he foolishly asks.
and david, yes i do remember you posting that ficus over castle...
still fun and it'll get better over time...

Re: Get wobbly in yo' backyard?
David,
I like and am impressed by your imaginative use of ideas, here and in the other topic, Jade Forest. However, experience with the Ficus [ is that a benjamina ?] would suggest it will rapidly outgrow the castle, and become very coarse in appearance.
Do you have a second castle and perhaps can try another type of tree ?
Keep up the inventive work, AAAAA++++++.
Much thanks for showing.

* Great facial in the Jade Forest topic.

Re: Get wobbly in yo' backyard?
Kevin, thx!
Khaimraj, I want to keep with jungle trees on such a project. If I do another, how do you think a Braz Rain Tree would work? Any other sugg's. Thank you for your kind words.

Re: Get wobbly in yo' backyard?
David,
since you are interested, in spending long time on your efforts, my suggestions would be,
work more with what may be familiar to you -
[ 1 ] Ruined Abbeys, Churches, Synagogues, Forts or just old Mansions.
[ 2 ] Try the Serissa sinensis, or Sagretia theesans or Ulmus parvifolia, seiju or catlin. Not tropical but has a good track record for indoor growing.
[ 3 ] Treat the effort more like a piece of sculpture, watch the root interaction, following shapes, not crossing unless it visually helps.
See the site, Manlung potted plants, Wu Yee Sun's work.
Enjoy the journey.

Re: Get wobbly in yo' backyard?
You guys have some great looking back yards. Nice trees! Mine looks nothing like these. Just grass bordered by mosquito infested swamp.
