My new display area
Hi all...a few of you know of the extensive revision my yard has gone through these past 7 months. I cleared out the back yard entirely and had installed an inground pool and spa. The project entailed significant issues concerning grade changes and drainage. As part of that solution, I had areas for growing/displaying some of my trees incorporated into the design. Here are a few pics of the project. Now, I need to tend to some neglected trees!

I have now gone from too much shade to probably too much sun. Will have to see how trees (and I) manage...

Stunning! It looks like you have a misting system in the wall... did you create planting boxes out of the stone and fill it with gravel?

Todd, there are adjustable spray heads in the 'planter' area. I have yet to determine how effective, or not, they will be. The planter area has landscape fabric underneath a few inches of grit.

Wow, that's really nice! You've got some great ideas, and that's a beautiful job of landscaping it all out.
Unfortunately, I'm still sort of stuck in the 'industrial stage' of development with my tree nursery. With not enough yard - and seemingly WAY too many trees!

Re: My new display area
This time last year I was using boards and concrete blocks and had way too much junk. This solution was not cheap but it complemented the design of the retainng walls which were integral to our project.

Wow John, Mazeltov!!
I must say, as this is my area of expertise, I can tell you in all honesty that is is looking absolutely bleddy marvelous! Congrats again.
If I designed this job for you..... I would have stained the Gazebo the same colour as the furniture, a dark ebony..... it will also go better with the dark palisade fencing....which is also beautiful and airy .
The bonsai display area is awesome!!
What is that grass you use, its definately a tuffed forming grass isnt it? Is it a grass that sleeps in winter, does it snow where you live? Did you sow it or was it roll-on?
Love and light.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone!
Andre, the grass is Zeon Zoysia http://www.nimmerturf.com/zeonzoysia.html
We do get snow every few years, and we may get temps down below 20F at night, although rarely. Our daytime average high in January is about 52F (11C). It will go dormant and turn brown in winter. This is my first experience with Zoysia as my previous lawns have been Centipede. We laid sod rolls...it can also be started from plugs but not seeds.
The pergola is cedar, so I went with the natural cedar stain.
Andre, if you are a landscape professional, you will be interested in knowing that we used permeable pavers (Belgard Aqua Roc) in the areas at the bottom of the two stairs to deal with significant drainage issues related to the pool construction.
Giga, I still do my own yard maintenance but contracted out this major project.
Here's an evening shot...

Backyard Display
Wow! I always love seeing pictures of members backyard display areas.
One of the most intriguing aspect is the light effects in different parts of the world.
Some locations remind me of impressionist paintings.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: My new display area
It's very nicely done. being an olde Koi Guy, I'd had a koi pond with koi in it for my water feature. LOL
I'm sure you can figure out an artful way if needed to incorporate some shade cloth.
