Hello, I just got this material imported from Japan. After I open up foliage for checking inside structure , I found out that 2 big main branches are wrong fix in position, one was horizontal and the other was not flow with any direction of main trunk at all. so I removed them all and not even think to keep it for jin , after that just left a few small branches to work on the top and the tree will be more like bunjin with all those a few branches .
before , you can see the big branch in the middle that run exactly horizontal to the left.

Very nice. Still, perhaps, a bit too much foliage up top??

thank you , Jim , I try to keep more foliage on the top as much as I can , that is the most healthy foliage , the lower branches are all weak too.

I like it a lot. Question: What direction are you wanting to take with it? Are you wanting it to fill out and let the lower foliage pads grow laterally? I ask because I'm fairly new to styling Shimpaku junipers and am interested in their development.

Thanks
Steve

Thanks Steve.
The future direction will base on first styling , so I want this tree to keep in this form but more tight foliage later on, the lower branch need more firm of foliage but still in this position and over all as first styling you see now,

Always like your trees. Please continue to share.

You seem to do a lot of work, top and bottom including re-potting all at the same time. How do you keep them healthy and what is their survival rate?

Hello DougB, thanks.
all my shimpaku are all survive as you can see my other tree in other post update them, the way to keep them good since first styling , if it needs to have more cut on foliage , I will remove them whole branch even that it seem too much but this way will safe too , I never cut the tip of them at all ,
normally I will not repot them immediately after first styling from training pot to the bonsai pot, but if the tree has been trained in the bonsai pot already , I can do only repotting new pot without root pruning .
