Nigel, I wanted yo to see this --- but .............
Nigel here is another new one, and also deciduous by Dry Season.
I have however temporarily lost the image with the leaves on. Please extend me a little patience. Thank you.
This is a shrub that grows on the highways and is very twiggy. Heals very well and I have high hopes for it as bonsai material. No flowers yet so I can't get it identified at the Herbarium.
Also aside - this shrub uses a great deal of organic material, very quickly leaving behind the gravel and the brick.
So when it is a little dryish as the soil goes, you can tip the container and all the loose inorganic falls off. You can then add back in organic material and replace in the pot. Or it can go under.
Today, I noticed buds, and most of the leaves fell of last week. So I gather, normal watering rapidly returns the foliage.
I am hoping that the long straight extension will thicken and give me the design I want. Or it is going to be pruning time.
Seems to have grow and clip as it's middle name.
Found as a seedling.
This year will be spent with two very long lower branches growing.
Trunk is about 3".
I have a few others but just started the training.
Until.

Sifu,
I hope to thicken the long skinny extension, and see if I can keep the height, if not, it is chop city, and a restart.
I also have to get to the shrubs on the highway sides to see how the roots develop.
It is an interesting plant, and I think it will become one to Bonsai.
Thanks for looking.

Khaimraj,
It dos seem to be a very interesting subject for bonsai. As is the case with most of these 'wild' shrubs it probably looks very different as a domesticated plant than it did on the roadside.
The colour of the bark is very similar to some shrubs we have on our side. As you've noted I probably won't be able to identify it until you have some leaves and flowers to show. Until then to appease my curiousity, a few questions for you my friend.
It doesn't have thorns, if any they would be small?
Are the blotches on the bark naturally occuring or the work of lichens and the like?
Can you describe the leaves and flowers?
The bark reminds me of logwood and trees of that ilk. I think its worth a go to grow out the lower branches for thickness and chop later in the year. We may just get a good growing season this year.
Anyways looking forward to your pics and future progress.
Rgards,
Nigel
