complimenting a tree
I was watching a video made of Peter Tea, answering questions at a bonsai display. A larch was the subject tree and it was being queeried about the right color of pot. I favor yellow for larch because in the spring the new growth compliments, summer's green needles is nice and to be honest, I love the yellow needles in the fall against the yellow pot. Peter said adamately "No".
So my question is when it comes to contrasting color choices with pots with seasonal (dedicuous) trees, what is the rule of thumb?
love to get others insight on the topic....

For exhibition, change the pot for the proper season. I wouldn't use a pot that matched the foliage/fruit/flowers though.

Hi Dick... You choose near-to-complementary glaze color (colors on the opposite side of an accurate color wheel) for a pot to bring out seasonal foliage, fruit or flowers on a bonsai. I'd recommend searching "color wheel" on a search engine (e.g., Google) & viewing images.
One of the famed complementary color pairs in art is the French Post Impressionists counterposing violet & clear yellow. Beware of color wheels that do not show those as opposites. Beware of a color wheel that does not show "green" placed midway between the primary colors of "blue" & "yellow" as directly opposite (the color complement) to "red"... :-)
