Mitch
you should come! They come from everyware to experiance this unique event! It is in the middle of a beautiful park, with only a small old pub "brown cow" with in falling distance!
Here are some more pictures!
On the way to "Burrs" we saw the great city of Manchester in the morning fog mist.
This in taken on that same location, just in front of the bunkhouse were we all work, drink and sleep! This is just before me and An were snaped by "BURRS"!
A wonderful Hawthorn with a great future! This shot was made on the Fryday afternoon the day before it all would start and before any work was don.
What a wonderful hobby Bonsai is!
A sweat little Larch, one of the many trees that were created during this weekend!
Cheers,
Hans van Meer.

Re: BURRS 2013
Thank you to Hans van Meer and Márcio Meruje
Had an amazing weekend. Thought I would post my little Taxus Cuspidata (Japanese Yew) that consumed most of my time at Burrs. I purchased this from Wattston Bonsai Nursery from Dougie who is a top bloke. Grew very well all year and was more than ready for its first styling. Here it was at the beginning of the weekend...
A Bush
Hans van Meer and Márcio Meruje both had a think about the Yews future
Work
First I had to remove a large Lump at the back of the tree which was unsightly and then remove a branch from the inside of a nice line through the trunk.
Then I wired the first major branch and removed all the foliage from the second trunk. Leaving it to Jin which will run into a shari later on.
Me hard at work, wiring, cleaning and stripping bark for jin. Also the use of a Picea Abies (European Spruce) as a cap stand for my new Ryuga Cap.
Styling
Hans van Meer and Márcio Meruje. Hans styling and Marcio watching and offering advice.
Finished Tree
Notice the use of negative spaces
Close up of the foliage that wraps around the large jin.
Thank you again to both Hans van Meer and Márcio Meruje who not only discussed with me and where i should go with the tree, but also periodically checked on me and talked me through my (or "our" I should say) work
I will also post more pictures of the event at a later date

Re: BURRS 2013
Friday evening we ate over in the Brown cow pub. Meeting New faces and drinking a few beers! Later on we then made our way over to the room to check out the trees.
Terry Foster and Hans Van Meer made they're way across the room instantly to take a look at my Hawthorn.
We chatted about how to approach enhancing the styling of the tree.
Hand taking that Reference photo
Working some of the deadwood.
The Finished tree, and all the bits that were trimmed off.
During the evenings banter, I found Terry squinting and measuring up the days styling. Hans came across the room with a beaming smile "My god...have you seen that tree from over there!!??"
Great times... A pleasure to meet you, and Thanks for all your help.
Loads of fantastic work going on over the two days!! You didn't have time to count the number of finished trees!!!

No thanks to you Andrew for trusting us and following up on our advice! It was a valuable little yew and it thakes courage to cut away that much branches and foliage! And your trust was rewarded with a very promising little Shohin with pretty OPEN SPACES! And thanks for bringing that large bottle of Smirnoff and sorry that I finished it all on the Saturday Night!
Cheers,
Hans van Meer.

Well I have seen your work so the trusting thing was no problem really. As for the Smirnoff....I have never seen anyone drink vodka like that. I can you see that you commit yourself fully to everything you do lol. I will remember to bring two bottles next time hahaHans van Meer. wrote:Thank you to Hans van Meer and Márcio Meruje

Was indeed a Larch Marcus. I snapped a quick pic of the front when we got back to Rob's. Not a great pic though, lovely bark for such a small tree.marcus watts wrote:i hope rob transformed a little larch Chris if it's a yew the branches kept are looking dead and the ones above are so yellow the whole tree would be dead soon
