Re: My Mother ...
Tran very beautiful pair, speak to me of difficult memories in life!...
Nicely made daiza for viewing angle, but even nicer figure stone...
I had seen my mother exactly like this praying at my fathers grave...
I would cut flowers to take from her yard and drive her weekly, for twenty one years...
Both happy and sad feelings very hard to remember and live with even today...
Now I and my wife visit, take flowers for both! and I see my wife doing the same thing...

Re: My Mother ...
I prefer the figure used as human, but I could also see it in a role as boat. to be able to find a stone that can be used for more than one display is a valuable thing. I could see the boat displayed in a suiban or doban.

Woe Dick! good eye!...
I naturally gravitated to the most obvious and compelling image.
It's kinda of an emotional thing for me and yes two is better than one!...
Missed the boat! not being an ex Navy guy was not difficult to do.
Maybe our friend Hung will put it in a suiban and give us a look?...

Re: My Mother ...
Hi Hung Tran... Both your stone and mounting are terrific. Thank you for sharing it.
I was also moved by Stonener (Joseph Gayton)'s stories of his mother & wife. It is VERY compelling. Thanks Joseph.
In Japan, figure stones are typically linked to distinct spiritual figures associated with religion, folklore or myth. The figure of Kannon bosatsu (Sandskrit: Avalokiteshvara) is often displayed in Japan as a willowy woman in monk's robes with a tall headdress. She is usually seen carrying a vase &/or lotus bud (or a willow tree branch).
At my mother's graveside service, I spoke of her reminding me of water. I was thinking of Kannon's vase which in emptiness holds potential for enrichment... understood as the Water of Life in connection with this bosatsu/"enlightened being." My mother, like water seemed able to fill every space in the hearts of those she loved. I imagine our sharing similar feelings... :-)

Kudos Chris! your a Tuff Act to follow! "Gate Keeper" extraordinaire!...
Now this is the kind of positive sharing and thoughtful teaching I'm taking about.
Real backed up! Knowledge and the desire to further disseminate and feed the staving...
The willingness to help others open up their mind and see things in an alleviated sense!
Exacting what or how a moderator could or should be...

I was Chinese before, offer "Kwan Yin"

Re: My Mother ...
Hi Trantanhung
Your humanshaped stone is very simple and elegant, and the daiza is perfect with the stone
I have just come back home from a windy trip to the Beach, was Lucky to find a humanshaped stone, I show it later
Kind regards Yvonne

Re: My Mother ...
Hey Hung! you got me thinking! again...
Look at this one, was under our sofa in the living room.
Now I think I see a person? collected because was solid black, shiny and 18" tall...
I liked the long narrow grooves and wrinkles in it a lot, also has nice naturally flat bottom.
I will check for others of this kind in our backyard piles, I think I remember two others...
These are river polished stones, large and pretty heavy, carried back to camp one at a time.
on a three day hunt at the Merced River 12 miles outside of Yosemite National Park...
Basalt very hard, heavy and dense material, this was the better shaped of the three,
other one is round and flat like a coin and 3rd shaped like real big mans foot print...
