Editing posts
I am a member of numerous forums across a range of subjects & all allow for a user to edit a post made. On most the usual time frame allowed is 1hr, with this forum allowing a post to be edited days after gives lots of room for trolls to play the games they like to....
Edit:-
Fiona, for example...9yrs after posting...
Experiment: I can edit this. F Can you let me know if you can, Matt.

Re: Editing posts
But they don't. Assuming you really mean edit as opposed to adding a new post to a thread, only a member (as opposed to external person) can edit a post and even at that, they can only edit (or delete) their own posts and not those of other members. If a member decides to play Silly Bs with a thread, we would take action. If someone joins specifically to troll, they are usually easily spotted.
The reason ours is so open is because of the time frame we create bonsai in, and it is not uncommon to find a poster returning to a thread they started a year or so back because they want to update other members on how that tree had progressed. If we remove this facility, we would end up with large numbers of threads relating to one tree and that doesn't really make sense.
Or have I picked you up wrong on what you were trying to say, Matt?

Re: Editing posts
Fiona,
I am aware of the general operation of threads & posts in a forum .. I refer to the ability to edit posts and the time frame in which such edits can be made, to be able to do so days after the post was made is some silly BS....

Re: Editing posts
I think Matt is referring to actually taking out/changing sections of old posts, hours or even days after they were posted. Maybe see https://ibonsaiclub.forumotion.com/t13687-fooled-by-tanuki which I think sparked this thread on being able to edit.fiona wrote:But they don't. Re: Editing posts
Matt is writing about the ability to change one of your own messages written days or weeks ago after someone later criticized or poked fun at or argued with you. That leaves the offending messages gone but all the -- now pointless -- responses there. The original writer comes out smelling like a rose, while those that took issue are left hanging in the wind.
And yes, leatherback spotted it.
