Hi Jun
Kifu siced trees is better for the old age, as you will hardly be able to see what you are doing on the small ones
Kind regards Yvonne

Whoops,
the Chinese call the Gmelina, the indoor maple. If it grows in China, it must be Sub-Tropical and probably imported onto this island some 50+ years ago.
Should have realised that it is another Chinese import.
Later.

Re: small trees in my garden
This is a small European Ulmus Minor 22 cm tall ( I think)
The tree was made from a cutting 6 or 7 years ago...this kind of tree has become a very prefered and loved specie of mine, as the leaves easy become very small with a nice Deep collor , and the tree does not, apart from the nire grow a LOT of buds, that need to be removed all the time.
I found the lavastone in Africa...and this tree will forever remind of this trip, and a interesting stonesearch...no suisekimaterial was found, but this is also nice
Kind regards Yvonne

Re: small trees in my garden
This is a another little young Lonicera nitida cutting, who is beginning to show a little bonsai quality...
It is standing 17 cm tall...my biggest challence with this one now, is to keep it undense, not easy at all. I am not planning to keep it small...I dont mind having this pot as the final for the tree
Hope you like it .
Kind regards Yvonne

Dear Yvonne, this is a nice root over rock small tree.
And this is from a cutting you said!
How long is this growing since it has been taken from the mother plant?

Hi Xuan Lee
Many thanks...the pot is very pretty, and I like it with the trident too..
Hi Alexandra
The cutting was taken during the summer of 2007...it has spend some years in a BIG pot, after the first styling was made...I may be able to keep it in this pot now...but if it loose too much trunksice, will I have to do something else...no matter what, do I expect to use sacrificebranches as usual.
kind regards Yvonne

Re: small trees in my garden
The Phyracanta from from page 1 had a good growingseason
But I never had a closer look at the branches, as the tree has leafes all year....
Took a closer look, and cut it far back...now I can begin a better refinig of the branches ....gave it a new smaller pot
Hope to be back with happy news
Kind regards Yvonne

Re: small trees in my garden
I bought this acer deshojo back in 1992
I worked on it untill 1998, made it look like this
Then a fungus almost killed it, leaving only the last branch behind.....
I could have made a small broomlike thing or a windswept from the remains, but went for a tree with taper...
Today do I think the tree is on the right track...I have the frame, and the branches right
The tree is a shohin, too big for a shelf, it will in the future become a bigger tree, I am not planning to keep it small.
This is a another acer, same sice as the other tree...this spring this one is also on the right track, I want this tree to become as big as it want, as long as it is in harmony.
kind regards Yvonne

Re: small trees in my garden
I really love maples, and that's a very nice progression, Yvonne. 22 years to get to that trunk size ! Was it in a bonsai pot all this time ?
The other acer is looking good too ...

Re: small trees in my garden
Hi Brett
Yes, I kept it in a small pot all the time, but have placed it in a bigger during summer, after it was potbound, to gain more weight and growth...The first branch to the left is "new", and the top also, they have been created with sacrificebranches....second branch to the right used to be the first, it is hollowed, to thin it out, as the lowest branch need to be the strongest.
In the future will the tree basicly only have bigger pots, as it is too late to keep it small ( witch I dont mind)
To have a big deshojo would be nice again.
The other tree is not that old in my garden...I think 4 years, this will be fith growingseason....I want this one to become big too.
Kind regards Yvonne

My guess is after you read my second reply, you understood it was not a post about 22 years of getting a little trunksice....it was about more years of work destroyed by fungus...a couple of years, of getting it back to helth, and afterwards creating a new tree to meet the future.
In Denmark trees grow slow....you come from Singapore, were you could have done the same in 3 years...I some times think it must be a kind of funny to read theese Northern European posts for you people ower there, in theese humid warm areas
Kind regards Yvonne

Re: small trees in my garden
Hi Yvonne, I highly appreciate your work. Nice trees, nice progressions. For me much better than 300 years old mugo yamadori. It is bread and butter of art of bonsai, growing from cuttings, seeds etc.. I´m really happy you are here.
