Eastern Red Cedar Informal Upright
Series of photos of progression of ERC thus far.
Acquired summer 2012 from nursery. Neglected stock, acquired for next to nothing. Tree stood about 6' in height.
Rough sketch showing potential plan for tree.
After repot and trim in March. Began chasing it back a bit. Took about 1-2' off top and removed roughly 1/3 of root mass during repot.
Today, open workshop at Rosade studio.
Opened it up a lot to promote backbudding. Will give some doses of fertilizer and let him recover and grow the remainder of the season. Hopefully chase it back a bit further and remove another 1/3 of the root mass next spring. Hoping to have something half presentable in 2-3 years.
Thoughts?

Re: Eastern Red Cedar Informal Upright
That one looks like it's off to a very good start. In the pictures I see it's got almost completely mature foliage? I'll be surprised though, if it keeps that after all the styling work.
Thanks for sharing a nice tree, and please keep posting updates.

Auballagh,
There was very little juvenile foliage when I began working on it. I too would be surprised (pleasantly) if that remained the case. I'll snap a few photos of some of the newer growth appearing in the crotches and along main trunk to share.
Suppose I'll know what I'll be dealing with in the near future.
