My Hawthorn
I thought I'd post a few photos of my new acquisition. Collected and purchases during my visit to Swindon via a bonsai friend.
It only just fitted in the car on the way home, and clawed and scratched at me the whole way:
Huge Grin Guys!!!! Here it comes
Thoughts?? :)

Re: My Hawthorn
Hawthorn envy here on this side of the pond! Enjoy your new baby! Worth any blood you donate to work on it. BTW, do you normally prune off the thorns before working on Hawthorns?
Thanks,
Todd

Thanks for your replies:
@todd - I think for an authentic winter image you need to see the barbs, I'm guessing there's only so many times they can rip into and hack you to pieces before they have to go ;)
We'll see how I get on during wiring later towards the end of the year
Here's a close up of the bark:

Re: My Hawthorn
Wow!
That's some seriously killer material to work with. I see a lot of potential there for development into a really, REALLY good bonsai.
Congrats!

The Burrs 2013 Styling enhancement ....for reference:
Terry Foster and Hans Van Meer and I chatted about how to approach enhancing the styling of the tree.
Hans taking a Reference photo
Working some of the deadwood.
The Finished tree, and all the bits that were trimmed off.
During the evenings banter, I found Terry squinting and measuring up the days styling. Hans came across the room with a beaming smile "My god...have you seen that tree from over there!!??"
Great times... A pleasure to meet you, and Thanks for all your help.

Bang upto date April 2014!
After the Burrs weekend my hawthorn has spent a quite few months in the corner of the garden, praying that went weren't to get the 2' of snow we had last year. Moved to a nice spot it's started to bloom quite happily. Even pushing buds on old wood :)

I've looked over the tree this morning and I'm expecting quite a few flowers :)

Re: My Hawthorn
At the risk of giving Bry a big head, that is a stonking tree!
Not much else needs saying except please keep the thread updated as it develops further.

Fantastic Bryan. It was a pleasure to watch you work on this tree at Burrs. Looks even better in leaf. Please post pics again when it flowers. This is one amazing tree and will just keep getting better and better.

Cheers guys
Appreciate the comments. The leaves are unfurling nicely now, with some extension and the flower buds are fattening up nicely too
Will DEFINITLY be grabbing some photographs :)

A fantastic tree Brian.
Would love to have a Hawthorn but in a small size. As Dan Butler said "Jealousy is a terrible thing"..
Looking forward to see those white/rose flowers.
